I have a 4 cyl. I was putting 89 octane fuel, but here in Miami gas is expensive, so I am putting 87 octane fuel now, but will like to know what is the recommended by mitsubishi?

i would assume its the same as here,(45 min north of miami) and its 87-1.91, 89- 1.96, 93-2.02

darylvia

here is more expensive. 93 octane is more than 2.05 for sure. Thats why I will like to know what is the recommended for the galant. I heard it is 93 octane.

Apparently you haven't been looking all that hard.

Posts #4 and #5 in this thread ('https://www.thegalantcenter.org/viewtopic.php?t=28843&highlight=octane'), and post #13 in this thread ('https://www.thegalantcenter.org/viewtopic.php?t=26236&highlight=octane') both answer your question, and both threads were within the first 10 results of a search for "octane".

Regular (87) unless Premium (92) is required which the I4 does NOT require Premium.

from about.com
http://autorepair.about.com/library/weekly...y/aa060504a.htm ('http://autorepair.about.com/library/weekly/aa060504a.htm')

"Are you tempted to buy a high-octane gasoline for your car because you want to improve its performance? If so, take note: the recommended gasoline for most cars is regular octane. In fact, in most cases, using a higher octane gasoline than your owner's manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won't make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner. Your best bet: listen to your owner's manual.

The only time you might need to switch to a higher octane level is if your car engine knocks when you use the recommended fuel.

Unless your engine is knocking, buying higher octane gasoline is a waste of money."

why are u using something that isn't regular grade gas in your car on a slightly modified i4?

4cyl 87 octane and 6cyl 91 octane. Higher octane on either car is a waste of money. You don't need to go higher unless your engine is geting detonation, you are boosting or running high compression. Read the link that clone2020 posted.

i put a gal or two of 100 about every 6 months or so to help clean my engine.
and it has a slower burning rate.

where are u getting gas?? most gas stations now sell gas that already contain cleansers in them. even in their regular grade fuels...

clean your engine? slower burning rate? where did you get this from? Octane is "the numerical measure of the anti-knock properties of motor fuel" it has nothing to do with slower burning or cleaning. But you're right, it's YOUR money.

so if u have 6cyl. what happens if u run 89 octane will it mess up anything i've been using 93 but man its hurting my wallet. so if it will mess up anything i won't even consider using 89 and i'll just keep hurting my wallet so... thats my final answer

i run regular sometimes. only when im desperate though. which is alot of times.

but really it isn't worth the money. i just put it in more as a placebo. i mean i haven't felt any long term negative effects from running regular but sometimes i do have dreams at night where my car breaks down and blows up cuz i keep putting regular gasoline. but thats just in my dreams.

i do notice that my car doesn't run as nicely with regular and that my fuel economy does go down which overall means that regular would be a waste of money.

i say spend a few cents more on premium, have that higher fuel economy And better peformance out of your v6.

First of all, octanage isn't a word.

Second of all, yes, krispy, spend your money however the hell you want, but..why? Don't be an ignorant, naive oaf just because you feel like it. You can run 100 octane all you want, but just realize that it's not going to help you at all. You're just wasting money. It doesn't clean out anything any better than other gasolines.

To whoever said it doesn't burn slower than a lower octane gas: Silence. Your misinformation is not needed in this thread.

People, just run the recomended octane gasoline! If your car is capable of running on 89, in no way will 91, or anything else for that matter, help your performance, maintenance, or cleanliness of your engine.

Maybe he meant "OCTANGLE".

as in "Those darn octangle stop signs keep getting in my way."

or...

The 8th month after July is Octangle.

or...

An 8 sided angle equals an octangle.

note: It's a thousand times more hilarious when you haven't slept for 2 days.

That was me  I stand corrected, I contradicted myself. First I said that it prevents knocking and then I go and say that is not slower burning https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif because it IS slower burning is that it prevents knocking. But I say it again, higher octane on a lightly modified engine is a waste.
