Hello everyone!

I've been lurking here for a while, as I've always like the 8G Galants. After a recent accident on the highway, my Talon is now considered a "total", so I'll be recieving an insurance check soon. Guess what I'm looking at? https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

My question is - what kind of differences am I looking at between the DE and ES models? Sure, I'd love an ES V6... don't know if I can find one in my budget/area quickly, and I kind of need something to drive to and from work. I've found a decent-looking DE, and two slightly-more-expensive ES's, but I'm not sure what kind of differences there are between the models. Or is it on an options-only basis?

The main difference are the luxuries. I guess you could call them.
The engine is the same. The interior and exterior looks are the difference. And it's well worth the extra. I HATE that black and greyed checker look. (sorry for those with DE's) It's just ugly. But anway. That's the main difference. I think there is a difference in the grill, and the door handles are color matched to the body. I'm sure there are other things, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

If you can get the ES get that one thats level entry the majority of Galant owners have either an ES or ES v6, the DE skips out on alot of features, cruise control, fog lights, things you wont think about until you start driving the car alot. Well anyway good luck with whatever you choose. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

don't get a DE... you'll regret it...

cruie, remote entry, rear stabilzer bar, foglights, rear window antenna, body colored moldings & side view mirrors, moonroof... those are all things you will NOT get with the DE...

Well, the keyless entry is the least of my concerns https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif First purchase for it will be a high-quality alarm system.

The rest of it, though... thank all you for the advice. ES it is!

Currently looking at a white '01 ES with <40k miles. Gonna head to the dealer this evening and check it out.

OK so what are the major differences between the GTZ and ES V6? Sport suspension? No the ES has that. 195HP V6? No the ES has that. Premium sound package? No the ES has that. Color matched grill? Oh yea that's different. Leather? No the premium ES has that. Spoiler? Yea the GTZ has one, the ES doesn't. That lovely fake ass wood grain trim? no, the premium ES has that.

So about that land in Alaska....get your Real Estate license.

my ESV6 has lower than chip's GTZ and we both had stock height cars. but uhm if you were gonna choose between DE and ES, i say go to the dealer and try both of em out. i mean the DE has a lot of goodies alerady and well that could just be enough for u. and u can call that a done deal. but the ES has a few more options that u might be looking for or just don't need

I actually went with the ES. My options were a '99 DE with 70k miles, or a '00 ES with 37k miles for $1500 more.

I take possession of the car Tuesday night(hopefully), but it is mine! I can't wait https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

sport suspension on the ES...? i don't think so...

Premium sound is an OPTION, along with moonroof, leather...

NO traction control for the ES, and no all weather package... NO security system either... and my GTZ has carbon fiber trim, not the fake ass woodgrain, thank you...

Does the ES have dual side airbags...? NOPE, didn't think so...

Hey, you know how in lots of other companies you can order the OEM features that you want on the car, wonder if Mitsubishi is willing to do something like that? Sure it may be a little more to get specially done for you but might be a cool option.

Like no wheels, or sound system; put in sunroof and cruise control or a manual tranny with I4. You know what I'm getting at. That would be kind of cool. A custom ES model.

Hahaha, just thinking of Allan. He can maybe get one customed like an '03 but with some of the '99-'00 features, hehe.

We're only applying the basic ES without options here right? If so I believe all of Tiller's points are correct. I had to shell out an extra 1 grand to get my power moonroof, side airbags, alloy wheels, ABS, etc.

learn from my mistakes, you can get an es v6 with sunroof abs and leather for right under $20,000 brand new. The sticker price means squat mitsu is so desperate to get the galants off the lots if you haggle, haggle, and haggle you will get it. Do not spend over 20,000 on a new mitsu galant, the resale value the moment you sign the paper it's only worth 13,000-14,000. And if you get a galant I would opt for the v6 and get the sunroof and abs. Spoiler you can get an oem aftermarket for just 200.00 shipped dealer charges like 400-600.
