Tranny filter? yay or nay

I was asking around to get a tranny flush and fill and I aslo wanted a new filter..my G has 100,310 miles on it and a buddy of mine told me that it wasn't a good idea to change the filter now cause it might damage some stuff. I never changed the filter on the car before...does anyone know if this is true? Will a new tranny filter damage it? How and Why...thanks

changing the tranny fluid and filter, if done correctly won't damage your tranny. what it might do is reveal some preexisting problems that you already have with your tranny.

I changed the filter and fluid when my tranny was slipping bad and it solved my problems.
