i got some of those off ebay. wasnt to impressed when i got them. they look like they are a complete circle but they are autally cut in the bottem. they were a bitch to get on straight to where they would look good.

the adhesive on the back sucks to. they peeled off the ac control box after about 2 months or so. the lights hardly shine through them once installed so its hard to see the different settings on the control switches.

Hmm - I had thought about the ebay ones because I thought they would go nice with my autotechnic reverse glow instrument cluster and performance gauges. So you're saying they don't look like the picture they have:

Bummer.

It looks just like the indiglo gauges when you get them. They come with a adapter like plug that you can use to plug into your extra clip from you indiglos. Real simple and easy to hook up.

the slit in the bottem of them is what i didnt like. makes them look cheap.

they are overlays that stick on the factory ac control box. unpeel the back of em and stick em right on.

I have them too. I tried to put some white out to cover the slit on the bottom. Made it look a little bit better though.

is there ANYWAY to just keep the pieces that go over the OEM pieces instead of it ALLLL being white and ugly

Yep there is, but they are like the indiglos. If you do not get a bezel, the wires for the indiglos will be in plain sight for everyone to see. They all white part covers the wires.

Now, you can get the regular non illumascent HVAC overlays. They also make an indiglo background piece without you having to have the HVAC glo.

Does anyone know where to get an actual A/C guage replacement that is reverse el instead of the overlay? I mean it looks good on whose ever car that is in the pic, but... I do not want to have to slit it to get it on. I could have sworn I came across a direct replacement on some random search for G parts I was doing. I'll try to go through all the sites I used to skulk around, and I'll get back to y'all.

did you have to cut the bottoms, or could you have removed the knobs and put the overlays on without cutting them? I'd rather not hat to cut anything if I don't have to. The only thing about those that I don't like, is that they coluld have made the def. and recirculate blue too. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif Oh well, if I do get those overlays, I'll just have to put blue bulbs in the A/c control, instead of the oem white that's in there now.

its cut like that for a reason. the EL paper is a flat sheet of paper. you can't get that shape without cutting the paper or custom making an EL sheet with that shape

Pinoy what the hell are you talking about? Mr. know it all, I was reffering to the slit. In an above picture, there is no slit. That's why I was asking if there was a way to get the things on without cutting a slit in the bottoms.
And I'm mad at you for locking my thread about JDM heads n kits. Lol. Obviously I couldn't find what I was looking for using the search, which is less effective than a yahoo search. I was hoping someone could give me direct answers. This is a Forum, not a search engine. But you dashed my hopes against the rocks. You fun killer!!! Lmao

there's no slit because the in the first pic the inserts are sitting FLAT. but when u go to install you'll notice what you're covering up ISN'T FLAT. to get that curve you have to have that slit.

hmm. :? So there's no way to have the overlays without a slit, and without covering the slit with whiteout? They need to just hurry up and come out with a real HVAC el cover replacement instead of an overlay. Lazy bastards. :x

doubt thats gonna happen. you probably haven't take off the face off the factory hvac control unit but if you have you'll know why they won't make just a replacement cover. its so easy to break something or misalign things when you take off the face.

since "they" are so lazy, you should just design and build what you want yourself.

LMAO https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif THANX  How would I go about doing that? Why don't you make them and then you can make some money from it? I don't know the first thing about making Electro Luminecent gauge faces, nor do I have the interest in making any. That's why I want to buy the things. Sure I might be able to make a close representation of what I want, but, 1) I don't have the time or patience to try, & 2) I'm mad lazy.
Gimme a call as soon as you make 'em, and I'll send you the money order.

haha, i'm not the one who wants them, besides i make plenty of money allready. so since you're the one who wants them but you don't like the current design, then you should design and fab something more to your liking; that's what the rest of us had to do b4 there was any aftermarket stuff out for our cars. some of us actually took the time and effort to get things prototyped and produced for guys like u that just want to buy something pre-made and put it on their car. so if you don't like something currently available, get it made yourself or stop whining.

actually i've done enough research so that i could give you step by step instructions on how to make a custom set and even where to get materials but you are, by your own admission, too lazy to do anything w/ that information. working w/ EL light sheet is not that hard, it's just a matter of patience and precision, but nothing terribly complicated. b4 i had the first set of USDM EL 8G gauges made (yup, it's verified), i did the research involved and was about to build my own set of EL gauges from scratch but i found a company that was willing to prototype them w/ my cluster (so they could produce them en mass), so i let them do it for me for a free set. so to answer your question, "How would I go about doing that?", do some research, learn, and either build your own set or have a company willing to do it, prototype it for you. but quit complaining. people that constantly complain and wait for others to get something done accomplish very little and rarely get what they want.

So let's get the instructions. Why don't you just post a tutorial, so everyone can build their own el a/c control covers?

hey reelax, is there an EL paper that will fit to the shape of the temperature controls. i mean i can't really see the paper conforming to that shape unless it was made like that. you can't really stretch the EL paper or you'll destroy the circuitry.

i think my post flew right over your head and you missed the point completely. like i said, you are the one who wants it; what is my motivation? let me state it as clear as possible for you: either do it yourself, get it done by a fabricator or use the ones available, but whatever you do, don't complain about it since that will get you nowhere.

you are right, i haven't seen a EL light sheet that stretches, but since these would be like the reverse EL guages, you would only need the light sheet behind the markings, so the light sheet itself would not have to b a complete circle. you could make them have the slit but the slit would b covered by the top mask sheet which could be a flexible material like vinyl etc. or if you wanted you could just do the inside circles in a an open ended wider radius arc so that it could be rolled up like a shallow cone with no center. then you could mask the wires by either using a bezel or even drilling small holes to run the wires through the face behind the circles. the color could come from thin sheets of colored cellofane that is sandwiched between the mask and the light sheet.

Got a source for the EL paper?

i saw a few kits on ebay. you won't find any if you use "EL paper" but if u use the word ELECTROLUMINESCENT then you should be able to find some kits.
