View Full Version : 8G Comparable Front Lip Kits

i did a search and came up empty...i'm sure it was discussed at one point or another...but here is goes.

What front lip would fit the stock 99-01 bumper with no or some modification? I'm talking about lips from other cars.

I'm not a fan of the VR-4 lip without a JDM Bumper. and i don't have the money to import one so, i'm looking for alternatives.

I'm thinking that the dimensions from the 96 Maxima might fit. Has anyone tried fitting a lip from another car on the galant? Two peice Lip Kits would work also.
I'm looking for EDUCATED SUGGESTIONS, not just lip kits that you think look hot.

I'm gonna be doing some research on this but would appreciate your input as well.

i had the chance to mess with an lude's front bumper. shape wise and everything it was a close match......it wasnt the last gen prelude it was the one before the last. you might wanna look into it......

i know for a fact, that the 8g cyber/initial V front gets sectioned in the middle and put back togheter and sold to cavalier owners.....i dunno if you could take a cavalier front lip, and stretch it

personally, i'm getting tired of the front i got, planning on going back to stock and making a lip provably from scratch or another cars

FYI, I was at this tuner shop today and they had a bunch of ABS front lips out - I asked if I could try them out on my car and they obliged. Here are the results - bear in mind that I have an 02-03 bumper and the results may be different for the 99-01 bumper:

Doesn't Fit:
Civic 92-95
Civic 96-98
Civic 01
Accord 98-00
Integra 98-01

I did fint one that actually fit pretty well - it was a Mugen Civic 99-00 front lip. The contours matched pretty well along the curves of the bumper, but it came up several inches short on the sides. It does look like it will fit well as long as you extend the sides.

No, the 98-00 accord lip didn't fit very well - I didn't have my camera handy otherwise I would have taken a shot of how each lip looked on my bumper.

Heres a pic of the 99-00 Civic Lip from google:

I've been wanting a front lip for the longest time, but wasn't happy with the look of the eracings one and we know the story with erac1ngs

Z.. I realized that they can do that with the Cavalier because the mounts are in the right places...but that's a body kit...i want a lip.

Piony...That's actually a really good fit. I think that can be easily extended. I'd paint the lip anyways i have no use for the carbon fiber look. But talking about CF. Couldn't a person that knows how to work with CF extend that lip with no problem?

I'll run a list of Lips that seem to fit.

Thanks a lot you guys.

pinoyesv6
03-01-2005, 09:24 AM
if you plan to extend the lip with CF and leave the CF pattern showing then its gonna be pretty tricky because you will have to rewrap most of the lip in CF if you want the piece to look like it was made in 1 piece and not extended. but if you paint over it, no problem.

Neel, that's not a big problem...you can screw it where ever the screw holes are at...just drill the holes into your bumper, Some lipkits don't even use Screws, just two sided tape. If you are painting the Lip, Like i am, you can screw in at any point you want and just cover the head of the screw with body filler or something like that and then paint.

Yeah, I bought the lip and it is just regular ABS, not carbon fiber (the other pic is just for illustration). I already have plans to extend it on the sides and fiberglass the gap. And my car is a 2003.

If anyone in the San Francisco area with a 99-01 galant and stock bumper wants to try different lips, let me know.

I suggest cutting the ends about 3 inches from end and extend from there were you need it to be. I am also going to try this but I am adding some more detail to the ends maybe a small wing or a connection to the top of the bumper. I saw some pics that PINOY had posted of some Jap spec galant lips. Pinoy could you post those here for us

yea take his advice. its easier to cut it like wanderingpinoy did and fill in the gap with fiberglass than it would be to just extend the ends. if you just extend the ends you have to worry about fabricating the ends and matching the contour. if you fill in the gap its a lil bit easier

would the 98-01 type-r lip require the same mod to fit the 8g i have an 02 and i cant decide from type-r or mugen lip, i was thinkin the type-r since i havent seen anyone with it on there 02...

no one has done it but you're welcome to try...it's be interesting to see. do you know if its the same size as the mugen lenght wise?

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/images/products/Comptech/Front_Lip_Spoilers_Type_R.jpg

i don't know it the mouth will match that of the galant bumper. If it does, being how the mugen lip matches the type R should match too.

Pinoy used a civic lip which is a different bumper and most likely a different length. Since the Integra mugen lip is long enough, i would assume that it's the same case with the Type R. As for the length of the 02 bumper, i'm confident that it would fit. you just have to make sure to screw it down to make sure it's not going anywhere. As many screws as you dare, if you keep the lip black, use black screws so they are not noticeable, if you're gonna color match, it doesn't matter. If i remember correctly, Pinoy was holding his down with Two sided tape and very few screws, if any. I think i remember him saying, "I'll secure it later" and never did.

<span style='font-size:25pt;line-height:100%'>Integra 98-01</span>

I did fint one that actually fit pretty well - it was a Mugen Civic 99-00 front lip. The contours matched pretty well along the curves of the bumper, but it came up several inches short on the sides. It does look like it will fit well as long as you extend the sides.

Pinoy, Did the mouth on the integra lip match? I think that's the most important peice. Because the curvature of the lip itself can be resolved with the heat gun.

If I recall correctly, the mouth part did fit, but the difference was the curvature - the civic pretty much matched the curve of the 02-03 bumper perfectly. The integra lip was a bit off, and more angled. I'm thinking of going back and trying out an integra lip again.

OK, so I went a little ballistic, lol https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif . It's just the same question being asked over again. Just ask me,SillyAsian, Neel9, ChuloMxcn and few others what they've done. We already know that the 99-01 bumper fit well minus the heat trim with the 1999 Mugen Integra lip, so that's final. As for the 02-03 bumper, I think it was Wandering_Pinoy and my previous project were the only ones that somewhat succesful. Here a quote from Pinoy a year ago:

Doesn't Fit: 2002-2003 Bumper
Civic 92-95
Civic 96-98
Accord 98-00
Integra 98-01

I did find one that actually fit pretty well - it was a Mugen Civic 99-00 front lip. The contours matched pretty well along the curves of the bumper, but it came up several inches short on the sides. It does look like it will fit well as long as you extend the sides.

Extend the sides meaning adding more plastic (melted polyurethane) to gap the existing lip. This is not a DIY thing if it's your first time doing. Took me 2 weeks to get it flushed and it looked fine. I think that was the message I was trying to say but got emotional along the way.

It does look like it will fit well as long as you extend the sides.

well, pete, the reason why i asked Pinoy that question is because if the mouth fits, the curvature can be corrected with the heat gun. Since the integra lip is longer than the civic...the integra might work on the 02-03 bumper. as might all the ones that pinoy say would not fit...it's all about the mouth and the length of the lip, the curvature will be corrected.

I wish we could experiment but now our option is kind of llimited since Phil no longer use his 03 as a guinea pig and Chad is using my civic lip as an "add on". We gotta find another 02-03 in the area pronto. :8G:

i screwed the ends down to the bumper near the wheel and the middle of the lip is held in with double stick tape.

Thats what I've been thinking, but does it seem like the mounting locations will hold up, or the mods required to make it fit right withstand that kind of impact.

What front lip would fit the stock 99-01 bumper or 02-03 with no or some modification? I'm talking about lips from other cars.

Has anyone tried fitting a lip from another car on the galant? Two peice Lip Kits would work also.
I'm looking for EDUCATED SUGGESTIONS, not just lip kits that you think look hot.

I'm gonna be doing some research on this but would appreciate your input as well.

I'm new to the site and was reading all the different lips out there. What is the best lip that will fit an 02 Galant with a stock bumper with the least modifications? Please name a few for me...

This has been answered time and time again. You can get the Mugen lip and EXTEND it. There IS a guide, but I would rather YOU search for it instead of me taking the time and doing the work for you.

Bloody Arro

Also, you COULD get a bumper and grill from a 99-01 and get a Mugen lip and shorten it. Quite a bit easier on work towards the lip.

Did you read the first page of this thread?
Cause it says that the Mugen Civic 99-00 front lip (requires extending) fits your bimper or the JDM VRG lip would fit but thats a hard one to find.

has anyone ever tried the Integra "Spoon" lip?

I'm thinking about trying this

It's a cross between a mugen and a type r lip so yeah it looks doable

EDIT: since we lost the Type R lip pics here's a recent project from me:

yeah I'm thinking about going for it. I don't quite like the shape of the mugen lip, but I really like the Type-R lip. Type-R lip with mugen holes = win for me

I went ahead and bought that "Spoon" style lip for $60. I'll try to install it when I get back home.. though I don't have a heat gun. I guess a hairdryer might work?

The lip is made of polyurethane, not ABS, so it's pretty dang flexible. I might even be able to cut it with a multi-tool knife

I wasnt even aware Spoon made a 'teg lip. Im interested in seeing how this turns out.

Im thinking about a Mazda 6 front lip and Ive seen a 2 piece front lip on the 01-06 Camry that might look good, kinda a S-VR4 look to it minus the holes.

MK3 VW front lip, they come in 2 pieces, find an extra piece to extend the middle and VIOLA!

I made this lip for my 240sx, but its down and the galant needed a lip and I saw opportunity, it fit so it stays with the galant. It was sticker bombed before I put it on...

Before... you can see the ziptie stitching..
http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii192/autodrift/26774_424557046958_817291958_5266144_1516118_n.jpg

After bombing... (ignore the ill fitting body panels, they were removed constantly..)

** Its important to note that the sides will fit perfectly, mine do not because I did not drill the holes yet in this picture for the end zipties to make it even.. It does sit evenly, more pictures soon.**

hmmm interesting Kouki

and I am officially done installing my Spoon lip

for references to my install process, go to these posts:

or just go to page 18 of my project thread and go from there:
https://www.thegalantcenter.org/showthread.php?t=28559&page=18

EDIT: with the polyurethane, a hairdryer will work just fine to mold it. Maybe on the ends you could use a heat gun, but I still managed it with a hairdryer. Just try not to run it too long without giving it time to cool off. And don't use your wife's top-of-the-line hairdryer either. Don't wanna destroy it and then lose your marriage because of a car lip :P

That's not a real Spoon lip.....it'd be a lot more if was one....and it'd look like this:

anyone ever considered this lip/skirt set or anything mentioned here for that matter: http://www.j-rally.net/~marjo/comfort/leg1/index2.html ? or just not worth the money to import maybe:

Well, if you have the resources to get it, someone to import or the money to order it that's a great choicem. The point to this thread was to find inexpensive and easily attainable alternatives since the 8G does get a lot of support.

Thanks for the input.

Haven't been here for a while now but i recently just put a lip on my 03. Lip is actually for an 98-01 Integra spoon style. Kinda like a mugen and a type r lip together almost. Made of polyurethane and it fits pretty well with only minor modifications to it. A little trimming here and there and it fit pretty well and no heating because it's already flexible so it just bends around your bumper.

damn, I was the only one with the spoon lip before :P

There's a bunch of pictures that I posted on a few pages back.
I still had to use heat to get the lip to keep it's shape around the bumper. Fitment is almost perfect.

Here's some pictures. Held on with just screws and no heat gun. Just some trimmings on the inner lip, nothing done to the ends of the lip.

I was thinking of just using a universal splitter kit with the universal wrap as a extension to lower it a little. It's black so it won't be noticeable I don't think. Thought bout the lips too and I'm glad I found this thread.
