Since I am trying to make the car look smooth and clean on the exterior, I decided to take the same direction with the interior.

I didn't want a pillar pod or dash mounted pods for the gauges so I decided to mount them in the cutouts for the a/c controls. The 60mm Greddy egt and boost gauges fit perfectly, no modification at all to the trim. The center hole will be getting a 52mm gauge, but that will have to be opened up a bit to make it fit nicely. The black gauges look nice because they match the stock gauges and the interior.

The SAFC is flush mounted where the clock, hazard light switch, and defroster switch used to be. The clock was trashed, but the hazard light switch and the defrost switch have been relocated above the gauges where the two a/c buttons used to go. They fit in no problem, but they stick out a little bit farther than they used to.

The a/c controls and switches have been relocated to the center console. Since the temperature and vent adjustments are cable operated, I had to replace the cables with longer ones. Also, the wiring harness had to be lengthened about 3 feet. This was done with solder and heat shrink. I made a cover for the controls out of the insert for the center console, an extra a/c trim cover, fiberglass, bondo, primer, and paint.

Those four black buttons in the change holder are used to operate the solenoids for the the shaved door handles. Those will probably be moved, both for safety and looks. I would like to put them in the headliner by the dome light, but I haven't really decided what to do with them.

I would love your opinions on this; good, bad, indifferent. Tell me what y'all think.

it looks really clean. I like that everything fits flush in the dash because I'm also not a big fan of A-pillar pods and gauges randomly placed (ie sitting on the dash). Its also different that you moved the AC to the armrest, at first I thought you might have wanted it someplace a little more accessible like going with a single DIN HU and then using the open spot to put the AC controls in, but then again, usually you just set it once and go. Either way it looks good.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Surprisingly, this was not a difficult thing to do. The most time consuming part was making the fiberglass cover for the a/c controls and lengthening the wiring harness. Everything else went pretty smoothly and was done in less than two hours.

How are you running the cables for the vent blower controls? Its a nice clean job...but too impractical for me.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(4-G-rim)</div><div class='quotemain'>How are you running the cables for the vent blower controls? Its a nice clean job...but too impractical for me.</div>

I used lawn mower throttle cable for the the vent and temperature control...it was the only thing I could find that was rigid enough that it didn't flex when pushing against the pivot arm. The throttle cable snapped right into the clips that held the stock cables in.

I thought it might be a pain in the ass to have to lift the center console lid everytime I want to turn on the a/c, but it doesn't seem to be a big deal. The cars not a daily driver so I can deal with it one or two days a month when I drive it.

Sweet...I would love to see the car in person. I think Censee is trying to set some Florida meet, and I suggested HIN Orlando in April....it could be the 1st true Florida TGC meet.

Dude, that is some nice work. Very creative placement with the gauges. The HVAC controls are in an awkward location, but again, very nice fab work on everything else. Keep it up, and keep us updated! 8)

I would be down for a meet. Hopefully the car will be ready, but I'll come either way. It would be nice to have the new engine in but if not I'll ride up there with my broke ass engine (hopefully I'll make it!).

Niice dude... I like it a lot, not a big fan of the old row of guages across the dash or up the pillar either..

Here's what I did with mine, just used a bit of putty sorta stuff and moulded it into the air vent, nice and unobtrusive and in line of sight with the rest of the factory dash.

that looks nice. i need to figure out how i'm going to mount my stuff so it stays hidden completely unless i want it out. some kind of hinged system or something.

Glove box, maybe. Probably woud be the easiest. But the gauges would probably be too far away and at a bad angle to view easily at a glance.

Thats why I got the wideband with the cool LCD display. It displays boost and EGT readings. I have it sitting right in front of my gauges cluster so nobody can see it except me. I like the gauge location on yours though. I think that the glovebox and/or passenger air bag gauges would be too hard to read while driving.

you should get a 1 3/4 inch black faced clock gauge to fill in the blower fan controls

I'm going to put a 52mm oil pressure gauge in there.

The buttons operate the solenoids for the shaved door handle kit. Each button pops a door open.

Well, I had to disconnect the handles for the front doors in order for it to work properly. The rear handles still work but I put the buttons in for the rear doors so that I can open the doors rear passengers without reaching back to the handle.

GEEEEEEYOOOOOOD that sounds a wee bit unsafe to me lol, I wouldn't want to be stuck in a car that had an engine fire and not be able to open the doors cause all the wires melted https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

That's why I left the back doors manual. If I could have left the handles in the front, I would have. Oh, well.
