nice...peano are you doing all the work yourself (with the exception of tuning...) That's mad cool. I wish I had the time and money to invest in something like this...maybe later in '05

yeah, i'm gonna do it all myself. i was going to tune it as well, since enough people are willing to help me who have tuned it themselves. it's a matter of getting their settings from their AFC and just plugging them into mine to see which one yields the safest readings and then going from there

Thats one HUUUUUGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE turbo. You ought to see at least 150whp with that bad boy!

Haha but no seriously, good luck with the install. Did you get a good deal on that tubular exhaust manifold cause I doubt it will play yield anymore gains over a stock cast iron manifold with the big 13g https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

yeah, i got it for $95 brand new, pretty much the same for a brand new stock 2g exhaust mani. plus it looks cool 8) and i plan to upgrade the turbo after i get it running smooth

WARNING: DO NOT use that oil return line unless you're looking for a hassle.

Just sell that one on ebay and spend the extra money on the turbochargers.com one.

Otherwise, best of luck on the install!

Also, is that manifold painted? If so, I'd also suggest stripping it unless it's some serious high temp paint. The manifold I got was painted with some "high temp" stuff and I can still smell it burning off to this day.

Are you going with an external wastegate?

peanotation
03-16-2005, 12:02 PM
i'm going go use the internal wastegate, unless you recomend otherwise for a good reason. and the manifold is from pacesetter, so i doubt they painted it with something that will burn off.

as for the return line, i plan on selling it anyways since it's for 2g turbos and it doesn't fit my 13g. i'll definitely get the turbochargers.com one

From what I've heard...pacesetter = horsesh!t. That "high temp paint" will eventually burn off and once it does it will rust immediatley.

Strip the existing paint off and have it powdercoated or coated with one of those high temp ceramic like finishes.

Internal gate is perfectly fine on that 13g

what's wrong with the stock return line?

I think I also remembering hearing the same thing Mindless mentioned about Pacesetter... Not really a big deal but the stench will get to you... plus it'll look crappy peeling.

Stock return line isn't long enough for a 4G64.

Reason I asked about the wastegate was because I didn't see it attached.

ahh, okay. i didn't know that, and i didn't even think about if it was on a 4g64 or 4g63 lol.

i also heard that the pacesetter is garbage, but not because of the paint, but rather the flimsy material, and the poor collector design. also they seem to sometimes crack at the welds.

god damn pacesetter. i couldn't really find any solid reviews at dsmtuners as far as the finish goes, if it starts to go i'll have to get the stock 2g manifold. the pacesetter comes with a 3 year warranty though.... :?

For starters it doesnt look brand new. Looks like a bunch of chips in the paint. And how do they sell a tubular exhaust manifold for $95?

it had a paint defect from pacesetter, and i got from dnaracing since he got it for a customer but they said they didn't want it after they saw the finish. it's completely brand new, not one sign of usage.

Ahhh still a great deal. Who cares about the paint, it will still serve its purpose 8)

i am running the pacesetter manifold. there is a sticker that comes on the manifold when you get it that the paint is only an anti rust coating. it says clearly to strip it and paint it with high temp.
but i really didn't care to do all that. I just wrapped it with thermal header wrap, and let it bun off. doesn't smoke at all now, and hasn't rusted yet, not that i care. the stock manifold is cast iron and they all rust.
as for getting it powdercoated, this place is a dsm specialty shop, and has some of the best prices i've seen for powdercoating(without having to call in a favor to a local buddy that does powdercoating). Best thing is, they have an array of colors, and they break down the price when you do more items.
http://www.boneheadperformance.com/powdercoating/ ('http://www.boneheadperformance.com/powdercoating/')
says 40 bucks for high temp powdercoat. you should get some other things done while your there, like your o2 housing, and maybe your chargepipes. I talked to one of the people there, they actually powdercoat the inside and the outside of the piping. for all that, its a steal.

If your DP is 3", i would suggest porting the wastegate before it goes onto the car, same goes for the turbine inlet. You should be able to open both of them up. But main thing is the wastegate. When i had 14b on the GSX w/ 3" DP, that thing spiked like crazy. By porting the inlet, you can get a little bit better spool-up time.

As for the manifold...most dsm guys will run either 2g or evo3 manifolds, and if they run tubular ones, they pay close to 700 for those. The cheap ones can come apart, don't flow as good, rust, and usually don't have even lenght pipes. Try it out, but if sucks, just replace it w/ a factory manifold.

What size injectors are you running?

seth98esT
03-21-2005, 02:46 PM
That downpipe is 2.5" tip to the flex pipe, then 3" back. It shouldnt creep too bad so Ive been told with this type of downpipe.

Dark Anghell

Yeah, you should be fine. But might as will do it anyway, since the turbo is out. Just make sure you don't grind away too much, so the flapper still closes, and seals the opening.

probably 550s. and if the exhaust mani screws up, which everyone is telling me it will, i'll just get the OEM 2g one

That's a good setup. You can also hold the powdercoat of the tubular manifold, and powdercoat the 2g manifold instead. (because the one you have right now will go sooner or later)
