How to activate a Key

I have a 03' Galant, I would like to buy an extra key, I called my Mitsubishi dealer, they are asking USD56 for the key + cutting and an additionnal USD70 to activate it!

Is there a way I can skip the activation part and do it by myself?

There was a guy on ebay selling the key, claiming that the dealer will activate for free...

I have the keys for about 35.00 or so I think.. Just make sure they Have a " N " on it and not an "R" I think is other ones. My locksmith sells them to me and he will program them too.. He made me one and my buddy one too.
I think was like 45 total tho..

Thanks for the post n3oAcid, has anybody tried to activate a key by itself? The method you gave me talked about two keys, and I only have one. Is it working the same way with only one key?

no man all i read was that u HAVE to ave 2 keys in order for it to work. so if you only have 1, your best bet will be to ask your local locksmith. ive seen the keys on ebay for like $15 shipped. thats not bad. let me know if it works out for you.

was them the right keys i hear mine is about the cheapest out ... Im not tooting my horn nut I have a locksmith that takes care of us. he says keys are about 35.00 to 45.00

Hope its not an "R" one for 15.00 then youll be able to unlock your car

yea last time i checked with some guy on ebay they were. i dont know if your are they cheapest out there. im not all over the U.S. i know if you find a locksmith that is willing to go lower on his price they will be like $45. its usually like $60 here in chicago.

Thanks I ll get a key from Ebay and Ill find a locksmith to have it cut and activated.
