Hi,
I should have asked this a while ago.
I bought my car used and only got 2 keys, none remote.
Is my car capable of remote? (Does it have the electronics inside somewhere)?
If it is, I think I will start looking for one!

yea the 2k ES should have came with a remote. but i suggest instead of looking for a remote, you might want to invest in maybe an alarm with a keyless entry feature. my car came with the remote and personally i odn't use it just because my alarm has keyless entry.

same here. im a big fan of DEI. many of their security systems are upgradable so you can start off with a basic system and add stuff later on if you feel the need.

how much should I expect to pay for a decent start up system (or at what price range should I aim to get something basic but solid/good), be it from DEI or others?

my basic system ran about 300 bucks installed. it pretty much was just keyless entry, door protection, shock proteciton, and starter kill. all i had was just a simple 1 way remote too. but yea that was almost 5 years ago so prices has gone down for systems like mine.

That sounds like a lot of protection!
I called my insurance agent today, ALLSTATE, and asked if I would get a discount for installing a car alarm in my car.
She said no... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif but she has discounts for the house.... :?

Anyways, I have been looking at the DEI brand on the Internet, and it really seems to be very good stuff. They have all this varieties though: Hornet, Pithon, Viper, Valet... and I got a little lost and all those picks...I'm going tp have to read up on car alarms for this one.

many of the alarms within the DEI line are the same. they just have different brands to them.

Hey I know I dont have an 8th gen but I got a crimestopper alarm off ebay for about $140.00 came with just about everything. Remote start, keyless entry, starter dissable, 2way LCD pager, extra sidekick remote, and a hell of a lot of other things, it retails for about $300-$400 the only thing that I don't like about it is that the LCD pagers battery dies every 2-3 weeks, but thats not to much of a problem considering how much I use it. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif ( I did the installation myself though and it wasn't to difficult as long as you have a basic understanding.)

Heres the company and alarm I bought.

Well, after some time surfing around I think I am interested in the following:
The DEI Hornet 553T Car Alarm.
I am going to go for a DEI, that's for sure! I like the fact that this one has remote start for warming/cooling, keyless entry, and code hopping, my main desires.

I was wondering if anybody would like to offer their comments on this model, if there is any other comparable/updated and/or better, any comments are appreciated!

(if for example for 10 bucks more I get tons more of features then I would go for that...
