In my opinion you shouldnt move the AC controls for a couple reasons. First of all if you take the surround off you will see that the mounting points are slightly different so you will have to rig up some sort of braket to hold it in. Also the surround itself is different. IF you look at the top and the bottom opening...they have a sort of rounded part around the inside lip of the hole. The middle one is flat...when I installed my guage pod I took my radio and put it in the bottom slot and installed my 3 autometer guages in the top din slot...

Besides all that what is the reason you are wanting to do it???

The reason why I am doing this is because i got a 6.4 inch screen setup goin in place of my radio and the slot of the ac controls. SO i have to move them down one slot or it wont fit

I am having the same problem. I have a visonik 6.4 and I have it mounted in the bottom slot right now and it is completely covering up the A/C Controls. I would rather move the A/C before I move the radio. I talked to Dave and he said that moving the A/C controls was the hardest part of doing something like that.

It's really not hard at all. I should have taken step by step pictures, but i didn't think so many people would want to do it. Basically, all you have to do is shave down where the screws go in on the sides of the hvac controls so that it will sit flush when you put the trim back on. Then, just take a drill, line it up, and screw it back in down bottom.

Yeah that is what i thought it would be done. But the problem i thought would be is that the ac controls current slot is kind of bulged more out that the bottom one and u need it to allign perfectly inorder to have it fit when u put the peice back on. One more question though , what about the wiring and pulleys are they stretchable?

the cables and wires do give you enough room for you to move it down but care must be taken to make sure the whatever u put in the upper parts of the console prohibit the cables and such from moving

Hey dave how much would you guys charge to just move my controls to the Glove box or to make a mold and put it here. ( where the radio is at the bottom?)

hey Laz, moving the controls to the glove box will be really hard to do since the AC controls aren't run my wires and such but instead, they are run by cables. and in order to relocate the ac controls to somewher ethat far would take a whole buncha precision work. i think your sceond option is more feasable

Actually I could live with this setup alsomy big thing is the way the Radio is positioned. it just looks akward. But I am always open to suggestions.

ok im starting to think more complicated. how about moce the head unit to where the 2 ac vents and hazzard switch is. and then kinda redo the vents so that they can still be used but maybe smaller vents or something like that. or maybe move the head unit down to where the center console is possibly. like maybe vertical where the cup holders are?

Moving to the glove box would be a huge pain in the balls https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif. As for molding that piece, just send me an email to: [email protected]. Thanks

Take into consideration that if you have your head unit down there, there won't be room for a CD unless you have the shift knob out of park. Someone else suggested on a different post that switching the ac controls and the head unit would be better.

I just finished installing this setup in my car. I had no problems putting and taking out the cd from the player,I mean you dont have much room but u can do it even when the car is in park, although i am not gonna use it much cause i am installing a 10 dics, cd,mps, dvd changer. Hopefully when i get everything running i will post pics of my car.

Easy moving the controls down, right?

hmm i dunno if it was easy, i think i kind of messed up mine a little, cut out some peices from the dash, when i put it in it is sticking out a little, so i wrapped it with black electric tape and it looked fine, but would rather have it aligned like urs is.

here's a thought.... doesn't the Diamonte have electric controls and so does the jdm galants... you can probably rig it to work (i.e you have the motors where the cables are, and then have the lcd controls somwhere else( im sure its possible)

I have no problem moving the A/C down. Just a couple of L brackets did the trick.

You definately can't rig the JDM controls to work without an new ECU. Our US measly AC controls don't even come close to the intelligence in the World spec AC controls. Several of us have already looked into it. Too much cash would be required to make it work.
