GSR and SE - what's the difference?

hey all
im a car novice so hopefully someone can help me out.
my girlfriend is looking at a choice between two galants. one of them is a GSR and one is an SE (im from Australia by the way).
from reading a bit i see the GSR has more features and power, but she will probably have to fork out $1,500 more. Is getting the GSR worth that much more? is the SE powerless, or does it still take off ok? (i.e compared to something like a camry or magna)

i have the SE...it takes off ok, but dont compare it to a camry or magna...it only has a 2.0L engine! yeah the gsr does get more power, and a bodykit, but thats where it stops. body is the same, features r the same. one thing u might have is electronic suspension (adjust the ride height by pushing a button) and if it has that in it, u will b up for new normal suspension as the electronic is renowned for going bust! these r great cars and if she can handle power about the same as a lancer, then go the SE...if she wants a lil bit more (still wont compare 2 a v6) then the GSR. can always put a diff engine in the SE, and may equal the $1500 or so later on if she chose 2 do the conversion

i'd say, if they r both in the same condition, same k's, same age, same amount of rust, go the SE...she's just a chick, she dont need much power https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif lol how much r they goin 4? coz galants vary greatly, can b like $2500-$5500 for the SE!

hope that helps a lil...i do wish i had power, but at the lights it can have pretty good acceleration, just no acceleration at high speeds.

the se is going for around 4000 at 175,000kms, and the gsr for just over 5500 at 192,000kms.
i think ill try and get her to go for the SE, although now she's also looking into pintara T hatch.
how does the servicing and parts go for the galant. I've read some places that parts need to be imported or something. is that true and are costs gonna be higher?

yeah the SE is the best bet.

i was thinkin last night after posting, both cars will need to be reconditioned while she owns them, and that would result in a loss of power in the GSR (well i think it would) and also add an extra grand to the total cost. I bought my SE 2 years ago with 176000 on the clock, and now its at 200,000 and still running fine, just need to warm it up b4 u really push the car https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
if she's wondering about performance...i was neck and neck with a 3-door early 90s lancer, till 100k's when he slowly started pulling past me and we were coming up to a form one lane, so i let him have it. lol u shoulda seen his, fully kitted up, front bumper, skirts etc, and he tied with my stock looking, scratches on the side, old galant https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif sure, a win woulda been better, but still fun! https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

ok, well price in a new stereo head unit if it doesnt have one already. also if u do need to buy one, u will need to replace the front 4" speakers (only like $30-$50 for kenwood/pioneer) and if u wanted u could replace the back 6" speakers, but i've found em to b fine (replacements will b $50-$150, and u could wire an amp to em 2). This is where the money saved with the SE will come in handy to put those sorta things on. Also the thought is the GSR may have been thrashed at some point, u never know. the SE probly has been more like a family car!

Either one will b better than a lancer/anything else really, in that theres a tonne of space in it (room for 5 guys without a prob, legroom in the back seat is good, and u should see the size of the boot!) and u get electric windows! no lancer has electric windows, and this is like a 15yo car with em https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif also the SE is a lil let conspicuous, so if her folks r worried bout her having power, this car is one that they'll b happy with!

ummm think thats about it...later on u could swap a more powerful engine into the SE if she could b bothered, but yeah see how she likes the power on a test run. really push the car and u should see its got a bit of go!

well that'll do lol oh yeah, bout the parts etc, i cant see it being 2 bad, i think most parts can just b ripped out of a lancer or lancer evo, as theyre roughly the same sorta stuff, so u shouldnt have a prob.
