looking to paint the trim around the vents in my car along with the fake wood on the doors and around the shifter..the door panels are gonna be black leather. the seats are a katzkin kit black down the center and gray on the sides.
the issue I am running into is that the trim around my radio is already painted silver with a red pearl. And its gonna cost me plenty to have trim painted the same exact color so I think I am gonna do it aluminum or silver myself
I painted the bezel around the guages a few years back and here's how it came out

and below I painted an extra piece I had yesterday just to see how it came out

painted trim piece placed in front of painted beze around radio to see how it looks

whatcha guys think
do it this way or get it done professionally to match?

give a yell to ipaintu about sending your pieces to him and getting them to color match it...

he's already made mention before about doing the trim pieces and giving them glass finish

I will be doing so whenever i finish experimenting with what color I want to do mine in... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

yeah I was talking to him about it but
the quote I got by me was 175
quote from him was 85, and then I have to worry about shipping to and from I would want to overnight it I will be spending over a hundred also with shipping.
plus I will have to find out exactly how many coats and what paint codes for the paint on the bezel or ship the bezel to him also to get color matching
and I really dont want to ship my tvs back and forth

the trim piece that would concern me the most is the ring around the ac/hazzard lights. if that doesn't match with the radio trim panel, then everything else will look bad.

but yea, painting it yourself isn't that hard. im painting my interior as we speak, piece by piece with cheap ass spray paint and the the painting part is easy. the finishing work, sanding polishing etc, takes the most time. especially if you're like me doing things by hand. but yea, i love that smooth as glass finish.

just remember guys before you spray the color on your parts you want to treat them first. So take the out to dairy queen. no nno wait.

Go to Autozone or somewhere and look for Bulldog adhiesive promotor. Its in a spray can like paint. Its clear and smells funny. BUT if you do this you will never have to worry about the paint pelling off. It will stick like crazy. We use it everyday on front bumpers and all plastics if not it will blow off car like nuttin.

Bulldog.

I tink all who painted their interior should post some pics to give us who want to do this some ideas.

i tried that bulldog adhesion promotor. i dunno. maybe it was the way i used it but i noticed in the high traffic areas like around my radio and where the door handles and arm rests are, that the paint likes to chip off.

but yea, this is what i use now.

pretty much what i do is prep the piece. scrub it down with some water and steel wool. then clean it off with a clean cloth and rubbing alcahol.

then i spray a coat or two of primer. i use a high build or sandable primer if the piece has some deeper scratches (not to be confused with gouges) and the primer fills that in.

sand with 400 grit and clean before paint.

paint a few really light coats. i do about 5. light sanding with 600 grit between coats to knock down possibly high spots.

after the last coat i'll sand with 1000 grit. you'll notice the piece gets much duller than without sanding with 1000 grit. but don't worry.

then i break out the rubbing compound and that brings back some of the shine.

after the rubbing compound i go to the polishing compound and that really brings out the shine.

finally the zymol for that mirror finish

if you think you can, then do it yourself. the hard part isnt the painting. its the sanding and takeing apart of the doors. for all the trim on the dash (minus the radio bezel) you wont need to sand or primer it. its textured so the paint sticks pretty good. i didnt even use clearcoat for these, and they came out great.
sorry but these are the only picture i have of once its was done.

i like to use a colored primer because of consitency. like in my interior, some of the pieces were black plastic, some where grey, some were wood trim. when i was done you can see a slight color variance between the pieces. but if you prime all the pieces the color is more consistant.
