i got the Freedom Design Strut bar recently. But i noticed that there's an extra thin bolt on my driver side Strut tower. This doesn't allow me to mount the strut bar like it's supposed to go. What have other guys done about this? Cut it off? or drilled the extra hole on the Strut bar?

Here's the pic

Not sure what it isfor, but I wouldnt just cut it off without knowing. Drill a hole in strut bar brace, its not too hard.

BTW, it's a 99ES, I'm sure that's relevant.

yeah drill a hole in the brace's mount. it won't effect the brace negatively. its an easy fix.

Pedro, what the hell is that about? https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif I've never seen that on any other Galant before. That's just odd. Is it just on that one side? It's got to be from the factory because of the way the sheet metal has that bump that the stud comes out of. I'm thinking that bump will cause problems with getting the strut bar on even if you drill a hole for the stud to come through because then the strut bar won't sit flat.

i think its the bolt like on wandering pinoy's engine bay
its for the factory strut brace like whats found on the GTZ

i'm just reaching here, i could be wrong

actually looks like i was disoriented when i made the comparison, but still , i think thats what it might be for.
i wonder if its on the upper strut mount as well?
or if its just rivetted to the body

There was no factory strut tower brace on the GTZ.

I have a 99 ES and I don't have that bolt. I have no idea what it is and have never seen it before.

Take your wheel off and see if you can see where that bolt is going to. My guess is, it is part of the strut assembly, but who knows.

Yeah, no GTZ has factory STB, mine doesn't have the screw or bump either for sure. (Yours must be a limited production G or something https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif )

But yeah, check the other side. Let us know if you find some other extra stuff as well, like a turbo etc... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

I think who ever installed your tein a few years back did that. if its a screw i would just take a dremel and cut it. there is no way in hell that little screw will mess up the integrety of your wheels now the big ones are a different story.

OH NOOO!!!!! :scary:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danger DANJ)</div><div class='quotemain'>Is it just on that one side?</div>

Yeah, just the driver side.

I don't remember my KYB, having that extra bolt on them. I think it's attached to the body somehow. I got my suspension redone recently, about 4 months ago, and there was no problem with that then neither.

Talking from experience?lol

a turbo? no such luck. Trust me...i looked.

I think i'll will just drill the hole into the sturt tower brace. I figure screwing it down will give me a little more security.

Now that i think about it, couldn't it be part of the bushings that go between the strut and the tower? Being how my car was actually built in 98, it was one of the first cars every built. So that may have been a detail that was discontinued right after production began.

Didn't the 8G come out in Japan in 98 too?
Brian, Check your JDM strut Bar, does it have the hole for that screw?

yeah, not to take it too off topic, you can check it here: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/corporate...90/e/index.html ('http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/corporate/museum/products/1990/e/index.html')

they always got the good stuff, and earlier too

well, i mounted the strut bar without cutting off the extra screw or drilling the hole on the brace. I mounted it on the outer two bolts, didn't touch the inner one, the strut bar rests on the innet bolt and nut, and it doesn't touch the extra screw by less than a milimeter. I could't drill the hole on the brace because the extra screw rests right under the suppor for the polisahed bar. I hope that made sence. I'll post a pic later.

When i redo my front suspension i'll check to see what that screw is for or where it's coming from and then deal with it.
