:?: I've been pondering this idea of lowering my G for a while now, but the idea that my bodykit particularly the sideskirts will be getting banged against the road is not an appealing one either. Here's the thing, i have erebuni sideskirts and they hang lower than the front bumper. I had a shop install eibachs but the sideskirts were way too low. It seemed to me that eibachs lowered more than they claimed or the shop didnt install them right they looked loose and moved around. Im debating whether to get groundcontrol coilovers sell the eibachs get kybs all around and that way I could control the height...or rip off the sideskirts modify them to raise the level of them repaint them but that would be a bitch. I dunno has anyone had this problem? Can someone give me an estimate of what this would cost me? How easy is it to adjust the coilovers do i have to take off the wheel? Would the ride quality be worse or better with the coilovers if i set it to the same height as stock suspension? NJ roads suck! Thanks in advance

Well my sideskirts sit about 2.7-3in off the ground on my tein basic kit on the lowest settings which the skirts sit lower then my front bumper. They are ok for now but Im sure I would have trouble going over a speed bump.

Anyway, Yes you do have to take the wheel off to adjust the height, they normally come with 2 tools that clamp on to each side of the coilover to loosen it then you can just adjust the height by hand and tighten it back up.

As for you ride quality it depends what shock/strut you go with to put with your ground-controls or you can get a full kit by like Tein, JIC etc...

hey ok is the installation of kyb's and ground controls easy enough that you could do it yourself. I think my problem would be compressing the springs because i dont have that type of tool. Where could i get one or what i can substitutute? Are there any tutorials for the 8G on suspension? Thanks in advance

it's pretty much easy IF you know what your doing.. and that your familiar with loosening bolts.. but if you haven't done this before I would prolly get one or two of your friends to help you out.. because it can be a bitch if your doing it alone without no knowledge of what to do..

anyways.. they have spring compression tools at your local automotive stores.. theres a tutorial here floating around on it

How is the ride quality and how much you have it lowered from stock? Thanks

with the tein basic, you don't need to worry about springs and shocks cuz the basic and SS kits include them.

if you are having trouble looking for the kit, look for it for the 3g eclipse cuz they don't make it for the 8g galants.

Ok thats good to know but also i have concerns with height ranges with the tein coilovers it says:

Height Range: Front 1.7" - 2.6"

Does that mean it sits 1.7 inch lower than stock or what? I want to get these now but i want to have flexibility with height especially for the winter i wanna keep the same height as stock. So is it gonna sit lower than stock on the coilovers even with the highest settings? Thanks :?

damn thats too low for the highest setting my sideskirts will be almos touching the ground. Is there any coilovervs outhere that can go up to stock heights lower. I guess ill just stay stock hehe only somebody here want to change my mind.

haha.. ok.. than if u woried about that than leave it stock why waist money.. any coilover u buy.. u can leep them to a stock height and lower it more.. if u worried about ur sideskirts belive me .. nothin will happen.. companies mention that it lowers the ride from this to this.. but many times it is alwyas off as dependin on tire pressure as well as many other things.. so.. if u really wanna lower ur ride.. get coilovers.. after all u can always adjust and u will be able to put it to a height where u wont touch ground.. this is the reason why most cars with kits have coilovers or stock springs..

you should be safe with the tein basic at the highest height. 1.7" drop isn't that low. there are people out there with the same kit who run progress and tein s-tech springs which are more than a 2 inch drop. just gotta alter your driving style.

Even at stock height, it's not a good idea to drive a kitted car in the snow. My Sister's boyfriend drove his Accord in the winter all kitted out with the stock suspension, but it still got messed up. Once you get snow that has sat overnight and it gets all frozen, it doesn't give when you hit it... and fiberglass will crack easier in cold weather. My Sister's boyfriend cracked both sides and scraped up the front bumper. You might want to actually take off the sides during the winter. Luckily I have a beater car for the winter, but if that dies and I don't have the money to get anything else, I'll have to drive the Galant, but I'm taking the sides and front lips off.

:? OK im confused you just said from your previous post that I cant stay at stock height with these coilovers the highest i can go is -1.7 from stock right? Plus galant is heavier than the eclipse so it might even be lower. I want to get these but I want to get my facts straight.

oh i know winters suck. last winter i cracked my bumper and i just fixed using filler and glaze putty still it doesnt look perfect. I dont have the luxury of having a beater car. I got all season kumhos for my 18s. So I hope my G survives another winter without major incidents.

the highest you can go on the basic dampers is 1.7" lower than factory height.

i have kyb agx struts with ground control coilovers.. and i can lower my car as low as they can be set.. my only problem is getting a jack out from under it.. i usually have to use a lift.. if you dont drive like an asshole.. and you take your time getting over bumps you'll be fine..

ah yes I am gonna have to deal with this in the winter also
I got the progress drop 2.2 in the front and 1.8 in the back and I should have my car back with a kit by the weeks end. I don't have a beater for the winter anymore, I hope to have it back though

ok i think im sold but are these ez to install do i still need that compression tool? Im guessing these wont be coming with installation instructions

pinoyesv6

if for some reason they don't come with instructions you can go to tein's website and view it. http://tein.com/ti/r70.html ('http://tein.com/ti/r70.html')

as for the spring compressor, you are gonna need it unless you get the SS-p's or you buy new upper mounts and all those other lil things associated with it.

Juventas

will there be fitment problems if i dont get those uppermounts?

pinoyesv6

the tein basics and ss use the factory upper mounts. so you either gotta use your old ones or buy new ones.

the ss-p's come with their own pillowball upper mounts
