Hey I Was just wondering if it would be possible to put on the Air like hindges on a trunk. I do not know what they are exactly called but most Audi's BMW's and basically German Cars have them.

They are kinda like air pressured and they stop the trunk from slamming down....

Would it be possible to put it on a G?

Any thing is possible with enough time, effort, and/or money. It basicly depends on your mounting position and components you use. The part you are refering to is called a "gas strut" or "gas spring" you car pick them up at any auto parts store. They are usually sold as replacement parts of cars that use them to hold up the trunk or hood. If you really have some money to burn, you could do the same thing using linear actuators and have it tied to you alarm to open/close your trunk.

cadillacs and lincolns have them also

yeah like BMD said with the actuator
you can talk to Ken_ or DAve@se both members here that have done them to their trunks

I actually got this idea from mante vr4. his trunk hinges are exactly like ours. but the difference is that the put a spring that connect near the rear tailights. so when you close the trunk it pulls on the spring and when you open it shrinks the spring. If you guys notice where our torsion bar are you will see that there really is not much room there for any air shocks unless you modify the whole back piece to extend it. So its a cheap alternative way and simple.

I have seen this mod done on a few cars. A guy with a Ford Focus did the exact mod you are talking about with the air springs. There is a difference between our trunks and the Focus though so it could be a lot more difficult. I would love to do something like this as the torsion bars get in the way with large loads in the back. If you try this, let me know how it turns out. Would be a worthy day of work if it can be done.

There's a product called Quicklift from Redline tuning - these are gas strust that hold up the hood:
http://www.redlinetuning.com/products_quicklift.html ('http://www.redlinetuning.com/products_quicklift.html')

They have a lancer trunk prop If you are industrious enough, perhaps can be modified to fit our trunk:

Which do you think would work better? The one for the lancer or the eclipse?

What did you say in the email? Basically are you trying to get them to make a lift kit for our car??

i noticed that also a while back. the big thing that i saw about it was that the kit was made for aftermarket trunks. aka ones that are fiberglass or cf. which are much lighter than the oem lancer trunks. so with a galant trunk. the shocks might not be beefy enough. haven't tried it but just a thought.

Yep

Althoug our trunks are heavy i would say they weigh just as much as the hood. They make many system so maybe they have something with more strenght

Actually I have already been in contact with Redline Tunning months ago about making a kit specific for the Galant. I posted a thread on this board as well to get a test fitter, but know one responded. I contacted them orginally to see if the Eclipse's kit could be used on the Galant. I actually have one of their kits that I am modifying to fit the hood. It won't work with the brackets that are supplied for the Eclipse, but I got them to send me several extra sets of brackets that will seem to work fine, depending on what angle I decide to go with. They were willing to make a bolt on kit for the Galant but needed a someone to come by their shop located in Mich. (can't remember exactly what part right now) I can tell you all their kits use the exact same gas springs, but with different mounting brackets, and I can assure you if you wanted to get one of these kits to experiment with, they spring will fit in the groove channels of your hood and trunk while closed and will not cause them to buckle. You can barely tell it's even in there, unless you are looking for it and looking real close. If anyone wants to see some test fitting pix of where I was mounting it to my hood, I'll post some later. I was also thinking of trying to mount them in the rear, the same way that is shown on the Lancer's kit, but decided not to at this time, cause I want to use linear actuators back there, but trust me this springs have more than enough pressure to raise and hold up our stock hoods, so you know they will have no problem holding up the trunk. (I'm 200lbs and had to put all my body weight on these springs several times to compress them!!)

Oh yeah, by the way if you didn't want to order from them, they sell gas springs on the same dimensions and the parts store too. I did have the diameter and the length of the spring's body written down somewhere. I will try to find it or remeasure them and post it for any of you that wanted to go look and Pep Boys or Advance for some locally. The only bad part about doing it that way is that they won't come with any usuable brackets like the ones come with in the Redline Tunning kits. And trust me, those brackets make things much easier!!!

I also just recieved a response from here here is what they said

Thanks for your interest in our product... For us to develop a hood
QuickLIFT kit for the Galant, we would need 20-30 seriously interested
buyers. After that point, we would look to you for a person local to us,
someone who wouldn't mind visiting us for an install here in Westland,
Michigan. This person would receive their QuickLIFT kit for free and would
be featured on our site and the installation manual.

The trunk QuickLIFT system is a different animal. We would gladly look at
this when developing a hood lift kit. However, we have many issues with
these kits - for one, they are extremely difficult to design as there is
minimal room and poor geometry to mount anything to. Our main reason to not
develop these kits is that they do not sell. With over 30 promised buyers
for our Lancer trunk QuickLIFT kit, we have probably sold 5 total to date -
they are just not worth developing anything for. Obviously, if we think the
kit is doable and we also have paying customers ready or prepaid, we might
create one for the trunk. Then again, knowing what force gas springs to use
becomes very difficult because most users have varying requirements
(speakers, wings etc.)...

Please guage interest and let us know what you think.

Thanks again,
Brian

Their kits average about 60 which is not a bad price for a bolt on kit, now we need to see if we can get 30 people who want to get this kit and not work about torsion bars anymore. Looking at thier install manual my wife could problably tackle this with no problem.
