Guys, I just installed my Apexi WS2 Universal Muffler. Looks nice just like stock but sounds deeper not too loud. I'll post some pics of the muffler installed later on.
This is where I got this from:

how'd you install them? angled or straight? a'pex is a good company but i'd take the N1 over the ws2 any day IMO but it hink it'll look nice.

i do not think that muffler could be angled.... i know there are other mufflers like apex N1..easier to angel and sound sweet https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

You're right, can't be angle though. Just like I said, stock replacement. Asked those Meineke to cut the stock (and keep it) and weld the WS. Hmm, quick question, how do you post pictures?? Sorry, its my first.

it has 2 sizs, "60mm inlet: 105mm outlet" vs "turbo version 80mm inlet: 115mm outlet" which one should I choice, i have 8G I4

i say go turbo version.. for some reason i love big mufflers.. they look nice when angled.. if u are not going to angle dont matter..

whichever is cheaper. both of them have a bigger inlet than your overall exhaust diameter.

I think angeled exhaust look best on cars with high buts.. like supras.... galants rear is sort of square and doesnt seem right... plus can look tacky if its leaning against the bumper...

pLUGSNEt, you're right. Mine is 60mm inlet/105mm outlet, they look pretty neat. Pictures below:

i love it.. your car looks pretty sweet 8) .. only thing im not feeling is the TYC lights.. You wouldnt by chance have or get a sound clip of your exhaust system?

thanks, that's 19" with 215/35/19 toyo proxes tires, good enough for me. I wanted the JDM tailight actually, but have to be patient. I'll try to get how its sound sometimes on this weekend. I just hate this louzy weather.

Wow excellent ride homie.. I love those wheels very clean looking it matches your car perfect.. i though they were 19's they fill the wheel well up very nice... and yes your exhause is real nice... I would go with a dual setup with those... those are clean looking.. did they have to add pipping to fit those in there.. if they did I would of sort of had them sit in maybe about a inch just so the tips barelly peak out... but it still looks nice...

great job https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Those are with Tein Springs and KYB gas shocks. The Racinghart wheels I have are pretty strong eventhough I hit some crazy holes on the street, they perfectly fine. I actually want it lower for the front, but there is no single shop in this area willing to cut my spring. Thanks for all the comments.

ah I see what is the drop rating for those? I have the progress spring and my front drop is 2.2 and rear is 1.8 and the car sits nice. it was lower until I got the kybs and found out I had a blown front stock strut

Nice exhaust there. Are you using the stock header and midpipe or have you swapped them out?

rhema, that's ws2 universal muffler by Apexi, if you scroll to the very first post there is a link that lead to the seller (where I bought it from). I went to local muffler shop and they welded for me. I still have the stock header though.

Sorry, I'm a noob to cars. (Been riding bike all along...) How much did the muffler shop charge you to weld it on? Also, did you have to reset your ECU to "optimize" the engine to work with the new muffler? (For bikes, when we change the end can, we have to re-map the EFI.)

I think I am going to work step by step, with the muffler first, then the catback and midpipe, and then the header. Is that a viable (and practical) route?

they charge around $80.00 with warranty, I went to Meineke muffler shop. You can start from wherever you would like to, I started from the muffler then intake. Haven't get header change yet.

im sure everyone is gonna tell you to search and im sure you will too but to sum it up, our stock catback piping is pretty good already. the muffler you can change if you want a louder sound or a 2 hp gain.

some people claim there are almost no gains with an after market header and some even hate the sound after they change the header.

dunno what gains you would get with a high flow cat

Thanks! I am a noob to cars but not a noob to forums, fortunately. The search function returns a lot of junk frequently, though. I have read almost every thread in the first 8 pages of this section of the forum. None of them touched on the "optimal sequence" to upgrade your exhaust system, if there is any.

So, our stock system is pretty decent and all we need is a better muffler and CAI, huh? I'll look into that. Important question is, is an ECU reset necessary every time you change a component (eg muffler, CAI, header)? My CD player is a stocker and I don't have the code for it, and my dealer is absolutely anal about it.

(offtopic) Gotta replace my leaky power steering reservoir and my dirty washer reservoir first! Damn dealer didn't take care of them before I bought the car a few weeks ago.

you wont find anyone on the galant forums saying that tho. but if you look on the 3g eclipse forums, everyone will agree that 2.25" piping for an i4 is enough. heck, the catbacks they make for an eclipse i4 have 2.25" piping.

and as for resetting the ECU, some do, some dont. some have problems when they dont. some say resetting the ECU is instant and not the 10 minutes - overnight that some ppl claim. as for me, i only disconnected my battery for 2 min and everything seems fine

ok i'll answer this. our factory systems are pretty decent. the big restrictions are the parts of the exhaust near the engine. piping is pretty good if you are only staying lightly modified. if you are thinking f/i ok upgrade the piping, but if you don't have plans of doing that, then the stock piping is good.

the muffler is ok. most people change it mainly for asthetics, looks and sound. but if you think about it, if you just change the muffler its what? a 1hp gain?

as for resetting hte ecu, you know what, i find no need to go through that process. for one obvious reason. its common procedure when working on your car, that you disconnect the battery for safety reason. i know there are a few times that you need the battery connected but for hte most part, the battery should be disconnected anyways.

Do you mean I should look into changing the exhaust manifold first, before anything else?

Frankly I am still a little unsure about the terminology. Is it engine - manifold (or header) - midpipe - cat - muffler?

qnz

intake -> intake manifold -> engine -> exhaust manifold (header) -> down pipe -> cat converter -> piping -> muffler

i dont think there is an "optimal" order to change these things on the car
