ive talked to a few people in atlanta that did the 5 speed swap to the 8th gens. they said that the 5 speed will only take up to 300whp. so one of them recomened the level 10 auto rebuild. Has anyone done the level 10 auto tranny?

I wouldn't think any Stock 3g/8g manual or auto would beable to handle that kind of power for a long period of time?? I know my stock tranny lasted about 10,000 miles before it gave out, but i wasn't at 300hp either

im at about 200whp and my tranny is still ok. i ve had the turbo on for at least 15000 are 20000 miles, but it still sucks. The ECU is acctually changing my shift patterns. tonight i got up to 105 and it was still in 3rd. When it was stock it shifted at 95. Im not sure thats a good thing are a bad thing.

i think you mean a stock tranny... if you build that tranny from the 3g eclipse it should be able to handle more than 300 whp

Who are these people????? I've never seen anyone on here post any 5 speed swaps happening in the ATL. I just want to make sure your getting your info from a reliable source.

I have 370whp on a 3g 5 speed tranny with a quaife LSD. My tranny is just fine, its also how you drive. I beat on my car, I might need to change my tranny next year, if so, I will. As well my motor revs to 9,000 RPMs, a 3g tranny was never meant to be taken that high. Also alot of the times when a tranny needs work its little things like the synchros or maybe a gear here and there, that type of rebuild would prolly run about $350. There are 2 guys on Club3g with V6 Stage 3 SDS and 5 speed trannies. They are both making about 400whp and above 400 ft/lbs of tourqe and they both have Kaaz LSD's which are weaker then the quaife. And the V6 and I4 5 speeds are the same tranny so there should be nothing brought up about " Ohh well the V6 one is built stronger."

As far as Level 10 trannies. Those things are JUNK. Aparently Shane had one and broke it in a few months. There are 2 guys on club3g that broke theirs. Im sure if you had ALOT of work done to the auto you could make it strong enough. And im not talking about Level 10, there are other places that do trannies but as you would imagine they dont exactly promote 8G galant trannies, but im sure you could work something out. The price it would cost you (parts wise) to swap to 5 speed and get an LSD installed would be slightly less then having a built auto.

I dont think your people in the ATL are very reliable sources for info, but thats just my 2 cents.

Why doesnt someone call TRE, Shep, or any DSM trans specialist. Im sure they could build you a transmission with stronger synchros and first and second gears for a descent price.

Try TRE...those guys will work with you, and they are decent priced.

Seth I spoke with Shep a few months ago, over the winter im gonna send him my gearset, he's gonna take a look and see what he can do. I might call TRE as well. What I would really like is double synchros and a longer 3rd gear. First and second are nice as is. Maybe I can have them cryo treat the gears or something

Didn't know your car was still running, thought it was having motor problems?

I've been testing out Amsoil for a few months now, it's working out pretty well. I have a new torque convertor going in soon so I'm going to totally replace all the fluid that's in there, as I was doing a partial 80/20 (amsoil/mitsu) before.

assuming you're right, what's wrong with a tranny only being able to take 300hp? i dont know but i'd be pretty stoked with "only" 300hp

I was making 370whp before that motor started having troubles. Im just finishing assembling my new motor today. Im hoping to have this new engine in by the weekend.

Any of you guys running an additional tranny oil cooler, or has the stock one been sufficient?

5spd trans do not run a tranny cooler. I suppose you could hook one up if you really wanted to?

I havn't hooked mine up yet, though I will be installing it after I finish the turbo project, and before the tranny flush.

AFAIK, a tranny cooler is almost down right neccicary to take on the extra load.

You can get a really good tranny cooler cheap from like Summit Racing or Jegs. They run like $80-$120. I actually bought a B&M tranny cooler to use as an oil cooler for my motor. There is a guy on club3g named "Napalm" who has a built turbo 4G64 and a auto tranny. He has a huge tranny cooler but im not sure which brand it is.

I actually ended up going with a stock Mitsu Endeavor oil/tranny cooler (not sure which one it is), for $40.

Though for the same price you can get one of those truck tranny coolers (10,000 lbs GVW +):
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?num=100&...=Search+Froogle ('http://froogle.google.com/froogle?num=100&hl=en&lr=&tab=wf&q=gvw+cooler&btnG=Search+Froogle')
Despite their massive weight ratings, their supposed to work pretty well.

Thats the one I WISH I could be using. I shouldn't have gotten the stock Mitsu one, as I'm sure it probably blows in comparison to this one.

Considering some of us are autos, death by mis-shift isn't much of an issue, though death by heat sure is. I wonder how many trannys we could have saved if the owners were using an EXTERNAL tranny cooler.
