Did you reset your ECU by disconnecting the negative battery cable for around 30 minutes when you did the install?

Also, is your CAI securely fastened? Mine wasn't and one night I was testing it out, doing around 100 and had to slow down real fast as I took the offramp and the CAI and MAS shifted and caused a failure, with the check engine light on. I had barely enough power to limp the car home. Thankfully it was only about 1/2 mile. I then disconnected the battery for about 3 hours but the light came back on shortly after. The next night I left the negative battery cable off all night, then reconnected it before leaving to work the next afternoon. The car has been cool ever since. I also had to secure the MAS to a the engine block so it doesn't shift around anymore.

Could be that the MAS plug that connects it to the ecu came loose and the car isnt running because t isnt fueling becuase it isnt reading the correct amount of air. It happened to a friend of mine and all it took was to push it in securely...also check all your joints...where they give you the flexible elbows...it that is loose or it is leaking it could cause a problem!!

does resetting the ecu apply to all intakes, because i will be putting the injen in next week. in addition, what is the most important thing i should ensure when doing the install

Yes resetting the ECU by disconnecting the negative battery cable applies to all intake mods. salil21 PM'd me and stated his check engine light has been on for the last 6 months. If keeping the negative battery cable disconnected for 30 minutes does not work, try keeping it off over night. It worked for me and I recommended it to my friend and he did it on his MX-6.

Are you installing a CAI, Anthony? I would say the most important thing is take your time doing the install so you don't break anything. When removing the OEM air scoop, use a flat head screw driver to wedge beneath the scoop and the chassis and pop that sucker out of there. The little plastic retaining clips will go flying. Hopefully you'll be able to find them again, just incase you need to re-install the stock airbox and scoop.

My CAI didn't come with any extra silicone tubes so I had to use the stock tube (breather) that come from the engine. This thing I'm talking about attaches to the top portion of the intake and goes towards the engine, not the throttle body. The stock tube is a little too big so I had to go to the auto store to pick up a adjustable clamp to secure it to the intake tube. It's the smallest one they carry and looks like the larger clamps that comes with the intake kit (and with the OEM intake) that is made of metal and it adjusts with a phillips screw driver. Yours should come with it so you probably don't have to worry about it.

mine is actually a standard short ram (injen). and i was worried about that breather too. typically they should come with everything you need, but if murphy has anything to do with it, always have a backup plan. and since im doing this two days before import revolution, i want to make sure i do this right the first time around, cause i would hate to have an intake that doesnt work right going into that competition and having it look all jacked up. thanks rich!!

The Injen short ram will take you less than an hour to do Anthony. There's nothing to it. But the injen doesn't come with the hose. At least mine didn't before you start the install, take the intake with you to PeP Boys or Autozone and see which size gas hose they have to fit the nipple on the intake. I think it's 3/8, but best to check it yourself. Buy about a foot. If they have silicone hose in the same size, buy that if you want the look.

It's just a vacumm hose, so after you remove the stock intake, you can trace it back to the manifold and just replace it with the new hose. Then after the intake is in, just cut it to the right length. You may also want to get a couple of 1.5" 10mm bolts, in case you lose the stock one. You'll need it to screw the intake down.

I don't recall any clips flying on my V6 when I took the stock box off but it was so long ago, I really don't remener. Just take your time and you'll be fine. And yes reset the ECU for sure. Good luck in the show!

If you push down on the little circle in the center of the top on those little plastic clips holding the OEM Scoop on, they release and just pull out by hand, then the scoop just come off, no need to wedge anything ;p

I didn't know that. Thanks. I even asked about it long ago but I never got a response.

Looks like I spoke too soon...With raining season coming up, I decided to switch from the CAI config to a short ram congig. Wellll guess...the SES light came on about 20min after I started driving. So I guess reseting the ECU is a must after all.

Yeah to install a short ram should only take about 20-30 minutes at most,
to install a injen cai takes me around 15 minutes or less but I guess thats because I have taken mine on and off amillion times so its pretty much a routine thing. But really the short ram should be a peice of cake. I would say taking off the stock box would take longer.

But the injen doesn't come with the hose. At least mine didn't

Well that sucks! Mine came with everything. Did you order directly from Injen? I know if you order shit from ebay or places like that atleast in my cousins case you never get everything. Yeah when you order from a company they should have all the parts,..they will never intentionaly not give you parts that you obviously need. I am sure if you let Injen know they skipped out on a part they would gladly send it to you,...they did that for me,....when I forgot to ask for another one of those shock thinga ma jigggies they over nighted it for me for free.

Man,..I must be installing my intakes different or something,..I am not saying I am the intake pro or anything like that but I have never out of 2 8G Galants never have had my lights go on at all. I have installed short rams to cai's to changing from short to cai because of the rain and sometimes reset my ecu and sometimes not reset my ecu and I have nerver had the light go on,...remember I have had a 2000 I-4 and now a 2002 I-4,....I just think its strange. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif I wonder if its just maybe in different Galants or maybe the install???? Who knows but now that I have said that watch my light come on tomorrow!!! https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Well I just installed my CAI yesterday. I got the same one that Big Rich has made by CP. It didn't come with directions. It took me a total of about an hour to swap out my Injen short Ram with the CAI. I started the car and got the telltale running rich smell, so I reset the ECU. That took care of it. My butt dyno https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif says I got probably around 5 HP gain going from the short ram to the CAI. The low end power is the most noticeable. Install was a snap, even without directions. Hardest part was figuring out how the mounting bracket that supports the MAF went on. You can do it Dragon.

BTW, my Injen which came from PTuning over a year ago also didn't come with the hose. I went to Pep Boys and bought Gas line hose.

Hey Fishboy, can you tell me where you got your CP cold air intake? I noticed those things are cheap as dirt but I can't find one for the eclipse 2000+ or our cars.

Nope I reused the old hose. But because you're my buddy, I'll throw in a length of silicone hose for you with the intake. No additional charge. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Like Allan said, I got it off Ebay. I was lucky to find a guy that bought one and never used it so I got it for $65 plus shipping. Search on Eclipse intakes. You'll find them there and I think with buy it now option they're $79. The filter is nice. Metal mesh instead of paper/fiber like the K&N. Doesn't need oiling as near as I can tell.
Rich, did you oil your filter??

After reseting my ECU, all I can say is WOW!!!
My low-end got a helluva lot better and top-end even better!!!

I remember a while back, someone posted a poll about whether you noticed a difference after installing a CAI, I voted "hardly noticed a difference". Had I reseted my ECU when I first got my CAI, I'm sure I would have noticed an even better performance out of my car.
