Hello everyone. I just bought a 1993 5spd 2.0L Galant S this weekend. It is in decent shape for a 1993, however the interior is a little worn and showing it's age. So here are my ?s:

How can I tell if it is DOHC or SOHC? It doesn't seem to say on the engine. The engine is a replacement that was put in about a year ago, it the paperwork just said it came from a 93 galant with 8600 miles on it...so it may not be the standard engine for the S model. It feels really peppy and similar power to a Saturn DOHC 16 valve that I also testdrove.

It has a 5 speed tranny, which makes it a blast to drive. However I am getting occasional grinding when I switch to 2nd gear. Could this be the 2nd gear synchro???

Also, how do you get the corner lights off to install a new bulb? It looks like I may have to remove the headlight, but I am not even sure what the steps are for that.

What are the differences in the seats throughout different generations? I really need some seat covers to hide severe wear, but these are all I can find:

They say the are for a 8G, but the seats look identical to mine in the picture. Does anyone know if these will fit? It doesn't have to be perfect, as long as it is as good as a universal....I just don't want to cover my headrest and make it part of the seat.

Or are there seats from other vehicles that will fit in my Galant?

What kind of Gas mileage is everyone getting?

Sorry for all of the questions....and I will probably have more soon!!!!

I'm really enjoying my 6G. I have already put about 150 miles on it and it is a blast to drive. It is WAY better than the Ford Escort I am sending away to the salvage yard. The escort was my daily driver and it gave out on me so I bought the galant to be a daily driver and hopefully save some money on gas versus my F-150.

Here is a pic of my truck:

Hey...

Welcome to the forum...

I own a 1993 Galant S as well. The easiest way to tell if its a DOHC or SOHC is by looking at the valve cover. If it doesn't say DOC on it and it's steel, then it is a SOHC engine. There were 3 trim lines for the '93 Galant's with the S being the base model.

I currently own 2 Galant's I own a 92 Galant LS with the 12 valve SOHC and an automatic tranny. As well as my 93 Galant S that I put upgraded interior in. I found a 93 Galant ES in the junkyard with mint interior, so I grabbed the seats and door panels.

As far as removing your side markers, it is VERY easy. Both markers are held in by a springy piece of metal that wraps around the inner fender. This piece of metal has a hook on the visible end. Pull the hook away from the front of the car and let it slip into the hole. (NOTE: the passenger side hook is hidden in the airbox right behind the headlight.)

Once you unhook it from the car carefully press against the outside of the marker, pushing forward. With a little force and patience the marker will come out.

Also, check out www.galantvr4.org if you have the boxy 93 body style.

1993 was the cross-over year for Galant body styles so you could indeed have a 7G.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to pst again, or contact me by PM....

Hope this helps ya....
