will he gaurantee his work?? the problem with many non dealer mechanics is that they don't do it right and you end up taking it to the dealer anyways.

Well got the G out today and the bill came out to $1253.00. I got a new water pump, timing belt, cam seals, sparks plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, and ignition wires. My warranty covered the water pump, and cam seals and they paid 495.00 so i paid $758.00. Hes a friend of mine so he did it all near cost for me and the warranty company for full so i could pay the minimum w/out looking suspicious. Now i have my car and it runs great! https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif It has 102,000 miles and i plan on driving it 100k more. If any of you guys are in cali and want a good deal on car repairs let me know i can hook you up.

 You paid how much????

You know you could have gone to a local auot parts store, bought the water pump and timing belt for less than $100, took a few hours out of a day off and done it yourself, right?

that is so true. for you 100 bucks and a few hours might be nothing. but for some people who won't know what they are doing or don't trust themselves, 100 bucks and a few hours is alot because if the timing is just slightly off, you have to pay more than 1200 to fix the damage you could do.

Yeah sometimes I guess you have to pay for piece of mind. Better to pay a bit more if you know it will be done right, then chance it and have to do it again later.

It just seems $1200 is a bit high, but then again, I haven't paid for anyone to do work on my car in awhile, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Yah max it would cost DIY would be $300-400 using OEM mitsu parts and replacing the pulleys. Maybe a tad more for the v6.
