View Full Version : How to: JDM Power Folding Mirrors Rewire

this is assuming you have the jdm switch AND plug with wires coming out of it...

JDM Folding Power Mirrors:

Use the existing plug from the OEM mirrors. (The one that connects to the door…its obvious) cut all wires there but leave enough wire to splice JDM harness.

JDM Mirror harness OEM Plug harness
Blue <------> White
Yellow <------> Green
White <------> Blue

The other two wires out of the JDM mirror harness are for the folding function. You must run two new wires to switch.

JDM Mirror Harness NEW WIRE JDM Switch Harness
Green ------------ Brown
Orange ------------ Sky Blue

JDM Mirror Switch
Cut the wires from the OEM switch…leave enough to work with and splice as follows, starting from the OEM wires.

OEM Wires JDM Switch Harness
N/A <------> Green/white
N/A <------> Black/yellow
Black/silver stripe <------> Black/silver stripe
Blue/yellow <------> Orange/blue
Green/black <------> Orange/black
Orange/blue <------> Blue/yellow
Orange/black <------> Green/black
Orange/yellow <------> Red/yellow
Blue <------> Blue/silver stripe

Some corrections:

Mirror Switch wiring :

Green/white and Black/Yellow from the JDM switch are actually for Illumination. It works and lights up the switch. It uses the same color wires that are left on the oem wiring.

what happens if you got the module also? would it not be easier to use the module.

Cali

what do you mean by module?

Dominicano
11-22-2005, 12:49 PM
I got the switch and the module that is under the dash from the JDM car they took it off. I will take some pics when i get home.

Since you don't have the module, I believe it give you the option to when you want your mirror to open and use what ever trigger, like when the car turns on, or when you disarm your alarm like that. So you don't have to do it manually all the time.

you should be able to use the relay module from a toyota or hondas since those are easier to find than mitsubishis. the honda one i believe is the most common, you just have to make sure you have the wiring diagram so that you know what to hook up where.

hey cali. do you have a pin diagram for the switch?

the reason i say that is that the 8g jdm mirror switch
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5817/dsc000096gs.jpg
looks like the 7g jdm mirror switch
http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/4336/mirrorsswitch9if.jpg
and the 6g jdm mirror switch
http://i12.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/78/2b/fe_1.JPG

so if the pin layouts are the same then they might just be the same exact switch which would make wiring the 7g and 6g cars almost as easy.

peanotation

i checked the 8G JDM wiring against my jdm mirrors, and not one wire matches up (color wise at least), so i guess it's completely different. if you have a pinout for the 8g that'd be awesome

The require is not that bad, I actually wired them up with out being in the car and it work perfectly once i put 12 volts through it. you have to run 2 extra. but i just plan to run all the wires i need to keep the stock piece intact.

I didn't use the module, the mirror stops when it's folded/opened. That's good enough for me.

On a sidenote since I'm writing here anyway lol... If you hook up the mirrors rigth, you can just colormatch the wires at the switch for the JDM one.

Ok so i have the JDM switch with the harness (Courtesy of Trigger).
So all i NEED to do is color match and i'm good, RIGHT? No module for the motor, or nothing? they should open & close on command with the JDM switch. i'll get to work when i pull back in from sea.

gtx

Yes, that's how I did it and it works.

For the mirrors (either with the JDM or USDM switch):

LH

JDM Yellow -> USDM Blue
JDM Blue -> USDM White
JDM White -> USDM Green

RH

JDM Yellow -> USDM Blue
JDM Blue -> USD White
JDM White -> USDM Yellow

For the JDM switch, just colormatch evrything, plus the two extra wires routed from the mirror:

Green -> JDM switch Brown
Orange -> JDM switch Sky Blue

Has anyone figured out the wiring scheme for the 7g JDM control to USDM wiring?

i think it was proto who told me this but... someone had JDM mirrors and used their normal usdm switch to control the glass and wired a store bought switch to the wires that control the folding action.

But I think if you can find out how to match it to the 7g wires, the JDM switch will look better. Funny thing is, I found a Mirage on the junkyard the other day that was appearently prewired for the JDM switch as well... maybe I should've take the connector for comparison of the wirecolors, I dunno

ok so i just took me 6 hours to figure out how to splice my jdm mirror control to my usdm wiring for 7g Galant. let me go ahead and specify 94. As the coloring may be different on different years.

some hints:
the strip on the oem wires denote side of car right miror or left mirror.

but of course it wasn't so easy. when i looked at the male piggy tail for the driverside mirror (wires on the door), it has brown, yellow and green wires all with a red stripe, and the passenger side had the same all with a blue stripe.

when i went to test those same colors from the back of the oem control out of the dash ie brown, yellow, and green with red stripe the passenger side moved, and vice versus...

Any way long story short, this is what i got.

OEM colors -------------- Jdm Wires
(dash)-------------------(harness)

Blue/ orange stripe---- blue (12v)

black ---- black (ground for whole system)

yellow/ red stripe---- orange/blk strp (left and right passenger side)

green/red strp----- green/blk strp (up down, passenger)

yellow/ blue strp----- Blue/ yellow strp (left right, driverside)*

green/blue strp------ orange/ blue strp (up down driverside)*

brown/ blue strp----- red/yellow strp (switched + for both mirrors)

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g259/MrHighC/Blue%20Ice/0813062226a.jpg

the controls for the folding part are the same as everyone else has stated
sky blue to orange, and brown to green.

To make it a little cleaner, I got a donor power mirror male piggy harness from 92 diamonte LS. took out the blk and blk/red strp. and put them into my stock piggy tail, now i have a 5 prong piggy instead of 2, just need to run the wires.

the one i wrote was for a 7g, the one Cali wrote was for an 8g... and you havea 6g. You'll probalby have to play with wires for your set up. I'm not sure what the differences is from your switch and relay.

That is only because the RHD mirror, but that is solved with cutting LHD mirrors.

My issue is that I need to also find the function diagram for the USDM wires (which colors do what).
I have a 2003 ES, did this install according to Cali's wiring and everything powers up/folds/operates, except UP is LEFT, DOWN is RIGHT, etc.

Does anyone have the USDM diagram that tells what function the wires do? anyone else have this issue? Any help is much appreciated!
