why is our cars so heavy, if you didnt care about ride comfort and all that what could be done to drastically lower weight?

8g's are not entirely that heavy.. weighs around 3200 lbs. (curb weight if im not mistaken) fer a 4-door mid-size sedan thats pretty light

If you don't mind loosing your Air Conditioner...that is alot of weight right there.

Also the spare tire/jack is good for 40 pounds. Unless you get stuck on the side of the road with a flat, then its good for nothing.

SS Headers are decently lighter than stock ones (on the V6 anyway, not sure about I4), seats are pretty damn heavy too (about 35 lbs depending if they are power or not), so if you can afford nice racing seats upfront do that. Lighter rims won't hurt either.
