I got a 02 ES 4G64 Auto and when I mash on the pedal at full throttle the car revs hard but don't go anywhere (well, anywhere fast, I know its not a Viper or nothing, but damn)....on the other handle if I put the pedal like 3/4 the way down the car accelerates fast and with every gear even faster (if that makes sense). Think of it as an airplane when it takes off, you feel it getter faster and faster with out any pauses....whatever n e wayz, what Im getting at is I seen on
-> http://theonechameleon.tripod.com/2000Galant.htm ('http://theonechameleon.tripod.com/2000Galant.htm') that this guy did a Throttle Body Adjustment Mod....do anybody know if that will fix my problem? and if not any suggestions? Thanks

not really, but its interesting you found this, hasnt come up before.

To notice any response in throttle, you're gonna want to stray away from the ghetto intake mod, get a real CAI or Short Ram intake, header, and exhaust. It will add a couple ponies, make your car sound like its faster

Or just get a tune up, new fluids/plugs/plug wires

Or nitrous

But anyway, if you think you can make the G any faster with free and cheap mods, you might as well stop before you even get started in this hobby

Best mod I did was tested my 0-60 down a steep hill...and it was free.

Such a noob! That topic has come up before way back in the day. That is TOC8g's website.

I tightened up the cable on my V6 and it gives better pedal response, which I like, but it does nothing to allow you to take off faster. You defintely need to increase your torque if you want to take off faster. And the only way you are going to see any real gains in torque is with turbo, supercharger, or nitrous.

LOL

you guys are a riot,
if you do adjust ur throttle cable dont tightened too much, just eliminate a lil slack

Ok, yea, I know going cheap like doing the getto intake I shouldn't expect a whole lot....but the sound it makes and its free, i'll stick w/ that 4 now...It just shocks me that Mitsubishi would put a engine that slow in a Eclipse....I was expecting that the car can at least peal out (15" hub caps can't be that heavy)!....I love performance but I would rather spend a lot of money on making it look nice (Rims, Tint, etc)...Im planning on adding all the bolt ons later (CAI, Headers, etc)....My main concern it that when I get done adding subs and rims the cars not going to move (not literally).....And does that chrome pipe for the CAI make a difference or is it just show? Seems like you would get the same resolutes if you just add a "Cone" at the end of the MAF, I dunno.

that chrome pipe is to keep the air moving instead of like the factory air box. it allows the air to go straight in.

Don't forget that with the Eclipse you can get a manual tranny. With the manual, you can get more power and torque to the wheels and you can peel out.

As for the chrome pipe, I'm assuming you are referring to mine. Well, technically it's polished, not chrome, but anyway the finish is for looks, but the pipe itself is a bit better than the stock intake pipe. Although, the difference between an aftermarket ram air intake (mine is a cold air intake) and the stock piping with a cone filter is very minimal.

Yeah I need to get rid my ghetto intake setup and buy a real intake. I am leaning towards AEM. But the new MEGA Ram Intake by Injen is tempting. Since it converts both ways.

Are you talking about when you press it 3/4s of the way, it goes up to 4K rpm and shifts?

Ours usually does that when the tranny computer gets confused because somebody else is driving it. I'm guessing it shifts there because thats where it makes max torque(155 ft-lbs?...its so hard to find specs for this car for some reason, I dont even know how much is weighs...yeah, im a noob, lol)

Im not really too educated on Transmissions...but im assuming the reason why your car accelerates much faster when you dont slam down on the gas is becuz of the Torque Converter on Automatic Transmissions. When you slam on the gas pedal, your throttle should be fully opened, which means your car will move but its going to stay in first gear until close to 5000 or 5500 rpms when it will finally shift. Im assuming that when you push down on the gas pedal with not too much force the throttle body does not open as wide at full throttle, which means that your Torque converter will shift the gears more efficiently instead of waiting until near redline to shift outta first. (And its also not too bright of an idea to be constantly slamming on your gas pedal like that). Maybe one of the mods can clarify this or correct me if im wrong.

Actually where the transmission shifts has nothing to do with the torque converter. The TC works when you put the car in D and step on the brake at a stop. A manual car requires you to disengage the clutch or shift into neutral. On an automatic, the TC takes care of that. It is basically a "buffer" between the engine and your transmission. Without the TC, your car will just stall.

How the car shifts depends on the ECU. I guess the best way to control how your car shifts is to do a 5spd swap. Otherwise you are at the mercy at the rather unintelligent ECU.

Don't do ghetto mods. They don't help.

Your best bet is a 5spd swap. Otherwise you can try playing with the auto tranny aka L-2-3-D upshifts. But I wonder if that is going to kill the tranny and clutch sooner.

The torque convertor can change what the rpms flash too when the gears change tho.
