Thats not tru, a road course is pretty overwhelming for a beginner. Learning the line, hitting all your marks and being consistent is the main thing, being fast comes with time. Believe me youll have fun despite the fact you having only 130 hp. Miatas only have 100hp and are slow in the straights but in the corners they rock vettes all day.

greddy
05-12-2012, 06:58 PM
yeah, I've gone from completely stock with rear drums and steelies, to shitty megan coils with good tires, to fully refurbished and custom coil suspension, sway bars, camber adjustment, and super sticky tires, and it is incredibly fun. Spend money on brakes and tires first, fuck power for now dude, I pass M3's in corners all day long, best part is when they have to slow down on the straights and wave you by when the corner workers wave flags angrily at them. Just saying, on Monday I had an E92 M3 wave me by, I have 130 hp maybe, he had 400+, nuff said. Learning the line is also much easier with an underpowered car, it's all about maintaining speed.

xd_01
05-12-2012, 07:54 PM
Yup hpde is all about learning how to drive fast not racing one another. Some drivers learn quicker then others that's why some underpowered cars pass high end cars. But it's all about having fun and learning at the end of the day.

Correct

That's actually very normal......always the first half of the gas gauge will move slowly, and you think you have great MPG; but the second half , the needle will move faster to empty. It has happen to me in every car I have owned. If you are getting 220 miles at half tank, your second half should give you about 100-120 miles approx.

Yeah 14, but this is also a v6

wetamup2k3g
05-14-2012, 06:08 PM
8G's have a 16.8 gal tank, but I struggle to put 14 gallons in even if I drive for a whole day with my gas light on and my needle hanging past the last tick. I can get about 300 miles reliably out of those 14 gallons. Still, 220 at half is good, usually I know I'm gonna get to 300 to the tank if I'm around 170-180 miles at the half-tank mark, so 220 is good. I usually only do highway miles. Considering the relative inefficiency of the 6G72, 25mpg is great!

Oh, and what dmdvzla said is soooo true, the second half of the tank in every car I've ever been in flies compared to the first half. At Lincoln Tech, my fuels teacher explained it as the float arm gets trapped between the top of its travel and the fuel BEFORE you fill it all the way up, so the float won't begin to move until you use some of the gas to the point where the float is actually floating on the fuel again. I know my needle won't move from the full position until around 90 miles after fill up, it was like 110 miles in my 4-cyl. Now my wife's minivan (and her truck before it) didn't exhibit that characteristic, but my old van and my parents' Ford Focus did, and my wife's old Cavalier did too.

And don't 8g/3g's have like 15ish gallon tanks?

That'll still only be like 25ish mpg?

Yea but fillups rarelypass 13.5 gallons unless you run your shit dry which will came back and bite you on the fuel pump.

My 3G was like that too.

But the needle in my G is so out of whack I just go for gas as soon as the light comes on.
My needle wont touch the 'F' after filling up (3 forced clicks after pump stops) it will sit right under the line, and when the needle gets near the 1/4 mark thats when the light comes on. So freakin wierd Lol! But I know my car and I have never ran out of petrol. When I got it I ran the tank completly dry 3 times to see how many miles from when the light shoes to being completely empty (Had a 5 gallon jug in trunk everytime ready to go). I got 70 miles all highway about 58 mostly city but babying it and around 60 mixed. So when my light comes on I know theres a sure 50 miles in it, but I usually go 15 before I decide to go break the bank at $4.19 a gal.

Yesterday's rain dumped more tree sap and leaves/seeds all over the G, needed a bath, again. Oh the fun of having a space under huge oak trees. Cleaned it inside and out, even the door jams, trunk jams and the engine bay. Those damn seeds were packed into every nook and cranny exposed to the elements. The worst was the rain channels along the top of the doors. Spent a good ten minutes alone blasting the dirt and seeds out of there. The engine bay wasn't too bad, no more oil leak since March, so the block is clean again, cleaned off the trans, a nasty layer of gunk all over it, and everywhere else I could get my hands into with a shop rag. Can't wait for the pollen to go away.

bronze usually looks like dirty gold. not a huge fan of black because you loose the detail of the wheel, not a fan of chrome unless its black chrome, white is just ok depends on what color car. silver is just plain. i like color if its tied in well to the rest of the car.

After 8 hours and test driving 4 cars (Yaris SE, Prius C, tC, Fit, my dad wanted to test drive the Chevy Sonic and the Fiesta, but we passed on those as the Sonic is a Daewoo and buying a Fiesta is like buying a computer, something better will come out right away), we couldn't find any car better than a Honda Fit lolololol.

I have Teins so the adjustment is on the spring not the strut. I am most likely going to the JIC FLT A2 soon. I've had the Teins on for 6 years and I'm hoping they last me another year then unfortunately it will most likely have to be replaced.

The fronts are all the way down and the rear have about 1/8" to go. Was playing around with the idea of removing the bottom locking ring up front and spinning the rear all the way down but it moves pretty good where its at though without P/S the bumpsteer can get pretty ridiculous. We will see where it ends up.

We will see where it ends up.

so the locking rings are above the spring? not below

theyre below the spring. You move the rings down the strut you dont move the mount up the strut like other coilovers. Tein Pretty much designed it so you cant over lower the car I am guessing.

greddy
05-25-2012, 12:25 AM
^exactly why they did that actually because the dampers wouldn't be able to take the strain and will blow much faster and get quite bouncy, all tein basics and the new basis that replace them are like that.

4g63lover
05-25-2012, 12:38 AM
Mine are SS-P's and theyre like that.

mrg7243
05-25-2012, 12:59 AM
I had to see them to understand but I see now. so basically you take the preload off the spring less preload for you the lower it is. Not here is my question wouldnt this put more strain on the strut since the piston if farther down in the tube? Rather than moving the mount up and retaining the same travel?

greddy
05-25-2012, 01:21 AM
Mine are SS-P's and theyre like that.

wait, you have SS-Ps and theyre like that? Damn, I thought it was only the intro level coils from tein that were adjustable like that.

Don't worry I will, here's my plan for the summer: swap in 5-speed trans, install my Tein springs (not sure to go with gr2s or try out the stagg struts), try to get my jdm heads more flush cause they stick out a lil bit, and then get it repainted.
