Fogs look good. Headlights are bright :) good for you I'm sure. But nice, Ron.

Remember JDM heads aim as though you're driving on the LH side of the road... having HID's in non-projector housings really pisses off other drivers ;) Trust me, I've passed a JDM-converted Galant with HID's before; it's bright. Good for the driver, not so much for anybody else lol

I guess its not that noticeable in the pic, but im running a W5M51 from an 03' EVO. Its been totally worked by DogBox Racing. Its got a modified oiling system, all the internals were micronited (similar to REM ISF process) all new synchros and blah blah blah. Hollinger chromoly differential tube, welded center diff, WaveTrac front LSD and a modified transfer case to run FWD. Next on the list is a set of DSS axles.

The vortex generator? That's an Evo thing. Confused.

It sounds like you want to lower it more...

But don't. That's a completely reasonable ride height... looks good, provides increased performance without compromising the roll center greatly by being too low. I'd say leave it.

true, yet the one i bought was made for the WRX. I guess they're ripping the idea. Either way, its no longer there, LoL. Yeah I kinda want it more, and seeing as I only have the car for 2 more months and then Im gone...I want to really enjoy looking at it (sounds dumb, I know). Oh I just read you had the Megan coilovers. Yeah, you'll hit and tear your axle boots if you lower the front too much. Poor design on their part.

You could go a little lower without any problems. just watch the clearance between the axle boot and the coilover body. I mean, narrowing the front wheel gap a bit won't make a huge difference in overall ride height.

you guys painting your cars in your garages etc are insane...its one thing to do something like a grill or something which can be done in a different color and doesnt have to match, or small pieces for the interior but theres just so much that can go wrong when not in the right environment and without the proper tools and products...

you guys have more balls then me though in that sense. more power to you and good luck

my dad restores cars for a living so I grew up on him showing me how to do it and we have the proper equipment. If you do not know what you are doing though, it is for sure a delicate art. Sometimes I get lazy with the prep too but definitely not this time. We are gonna do the whole car at some point this summer

^ 35K is not hard to afford, im sure if you got your finance's straight its affordable.

What?

$600 a month for a payment at 6% APR and a minimum of $200/month for insurance unless you're well over 25. Add in at least $100/month for maintenance of a very high-maintenance high-performance car.

That's $900/month. You want to rephrase what you just said? It's more affordable to lease a BMW 5 series.

Team Helotes
05-22-2009, 05:24 PM
Unless you credit is crap you should be able to get way under 6%.

WarmAndSCSI

Unless you credit is crap you should be able to get way under 6%.

It's not a $15-20k car. It's harder to get a low interest rate.

I'm not paying 6%. I pay less. And I don't think you quite understand that 6% is actually pretty damn low. The national average is about 7.0% for new cars, even with the shit economy. THAT is if you can even get approved right now.

But go find out for yourself.

But I'll challenge any of you. Go look at a new Evo this weekend. If you can get one off the lot and actually be able to afford it, you win. This isn't one of those scenarios I'm arguing from a "what if" perspective. I obviously know better than anybody here, except fellow new Evo X owners, what the truth is.

Team Helotes
05-22-2009, 05:34 PM

Not on an Evo... on a Civic, sure. Cost of the vehicle and your ability to make the payment at the given loan term, are both HUGE factors in your actual interest rate.

Good for you. Now go apply for the same loan at a Mitsubishi dealership and report back. There are so many factors, that you saying a 6% interest rate, which is BELOW average, is high was just a dumb statement. "I am able to get x% APR on a particular vehicle (*cough* not mentioning the dealer or manufacturer interest rate incentives) so that means somebody who is getting y%, even though below the national average, is paying too much." Dumb argument, deal with it.

I always get approved before I even go shopping.

On my first truck the dealer wanted to tote the note. I asked them what they could do and they were .75% higher than my bank so I told them no they came back and beat it buy .25%.

It is all a game and you have to know how to play it.

I was paying for a $25K car and a $35K car at the same time from 2000 to 2005. That's about $1400 a month with insurance. I love not having car payments monthly. I can probably afford more than a $40k car, but I just dont feel like working my ass off to pay off my bills.

I always wonder why people can say "I can get this car" "I can get that car", its only blah blah blah X amount of money. and hell to know they dont know what their credit is, nor know how much interest or the basic concept of a loan.

Ive been follow the last several posts. A tip to all who are buying new cars.... it may be 30k for 60months/5years out the door at the dealership. But its gonna be around 48k by the time your done paying for it. Now under the circumstances that your down payment is 20k and your credit is like 800+ with you being well over 25 (i would just be wondering why your buying an evo) aside the the point. So much variation are taken into consideration. Correct me if im wrong, Now when TJ says "afford" i believe he means, you have no problem handling monthly payments with plenty to spare at the end of every month with all other expenses taken care of also. Examples, You make 2k a month, your evo&insurance cost you 600$ + 1k$ of bill and daily expenses leaving you with 400$ to spare. vs you make 5k a month your evo&insurance cost you 900$ + 3.5k$ of bill and daily expenses (iono you have to much kids or something aka child support) ending up with the same 400$ to spare. So if you have money to spare after paying your monthly bill of evo and the expenses that come with it. Then you can afford it.

WarmAndSCSI

LOL your first scenario is funny. Not a single person on the planet making $2k/month can afford a $1k/month car unless they've got free rent.

Leechers of their parents....lol It's possible, seen it done and is pretty sad at the site that they cant afford to live but can afford to drive a new car.

thanks. The problem with the head on view is mostlikely cause the hood is raised up a little and sitting on can caps on either side to hold it up. I have a trickle charger hooked up to the battery since I dont get around to driving the car that often

i wouldnt buy a new evo simply based on the fact that i could spend 5K on my S4 and have a better track and drag car and not have a cheap ass interior. then again my S4 new was around 50K so i guess it doesnt matter

I was paying for a $25K car and a $35K car at the same time from 2000 to 2005. That's about $1400 a month with insurance. I love not having car payments monthly. I can probably afford more than a $40k car, but I just dont feel like working my ass off to pay off my bills.

You obviously have never lived in a small town. I can rent a 2-3 bedroom apartment for $300-400 a month. So $300 rent + $1000 car = $700 left for other bills.

thanks Craig. yeah took her out to get inspected. In NJ unlike in NY inspection doesnt count from when it gets done, it counts from when it should have gotten down LOL. I shoulda gotten them done in March but got them done over the last 2 weeks. And the sticker still says March and I lost 2 months on each. The guy explained it to me that even if he gave me stickers with 5 (May) on them in the computer it would still show as March. Oh well

I could afford a new C63 if I'd wanted to, but I don't, I'd rather have a E55, and buy the one I'd like to have, and be patient on a deal that I want.. Mostly because the E55 is the Merc that I'd really like to have, and I've set a strict budget to be within so it is more than affordable.

What?

$600 a month for a payment at 6% APR and a minimum of $200/month for insurance unless you're well over 25. Add in at least $100/month for maintenance of a very high-maintenance high-performance car.

That's $900/month. You want to rephrase what you just said? It's more affordable to lease a BMW 5 series.

what maintenance do you have to do at atleast $100/month? i believe you, i'm looking into one and was just curious
