yea bro, definitely... hopefully within a year i will have enough money to do a full evo head swap

That will be off the hook, with little work and money, you can get entire evo engine, turn it sideways and make the G RWD, you know that right? Do something different, everyone's doing the evo head swaps. You car is hot, keep that streak going, if you just do a head swap, the glory stops since so many have done the same exact thing before you. That's just my opinion, kno wha I mean jelly bean..lol?

Alot of the EVO guys doing this are using alot of 1 off parts and sequential gearboxes from either PPG or Hollinger that are really race only type trannies. With that being said, depending on your power goals, you can make the car RWD, pretty much by doing the opposite of what I did on my 8g. You would weld the center diff in the trans, have a solid diff tube made to go from the center diff into the front diff (in the transfer case) you would remove the front diff from the transfer case all together or leave it, although its better out to save weight. Then install aluminum plugs into the holes where the front axles went. Now you would just use the 2g auto rear and custom driveshaft. Essentially it would be the AWD swap but then eliminate the front drive axles and diff. I bet it would hold 400-500whp or so, anything more you would be breaking that diff tube, transfer case or rear diff. This is how the early EVO 8's were converted for drifting.

i fixed ur post so the movie would show. great job on the plate motor! i'm glad my idea from last time we saw each other at MOD09 worked out! i tried to figure out how to do it on my car but since i would have to mount it on the bottom of my bumper it would be way too low as i have less ground clearnce allready, i would scarpe the bottom of the plate when it was up and srape the entire plate when it was down; i installed the manual version on my cousin's benz, but his bumper is so short it doesn't hurt ground clearance that bad. dope job, it looks sweet!

You can also run either a GMC type transmission or a r154 supra tranny with a custom bellhousing that will hold plenty of power; tranny is already meant for rwd.

those r154's transmission hold about 500whp stock and can usually be found for under 500 if you look around

cool thanks man! yea the only reason i got it is because the lip protect the plate when i bottom out; when i had my lip off i busted the plate frame and had to get another one.

yeah but what I was getting at is you wont have to tub anything or do any major cutting or fab to get it in there. There aint no room for that RWD bell housing and trans on an 8g without some SERIOUS work.

03-Galant-ES
07-08-2010, 11:35 PM
For that Supra tranny to work on a RWD Evo would it have to be mounted 90 degrees from what it is now with custom mounts and everything? It looks like the drive shaft is exiting the side of the motor now, or am I looking at it wrong.

beam514
07-09-2010, 12:25 AM
^^ the cam gears would be at the front of the car. The drive shaft would come out of the rear of the transmission (the skinny end) and is in line with the engine + transmission assembly. From there it would go to a rear differential to be translated into forward movement. Not sure if that answers your question but that's the best I can do

agreed! might as well cut out the entire firewall to get started lol.

He was talking specifically about tubing which is why i suggested that but yea, modding the tranny/crossmember would require less fab work.

Just finished up the exterior of the car, still trying to figure out how to get the side mirrors to fold and adjust, hopefully by tonight i can get them to work, (if anyone has pics of the wires matching to their jdm plug that would help since mine has a couple of different colored wires than the tutorial has) gonna get extended studs and lugs, not sure if imma go black or polished, the red isnt working out. and still looking for 2nd gen tails since mine are done. wheels are polished from lip to inside barrel, i did a 3 stage dark silver paint on the face and it came out pretty nice. in the sun, it has like a lil gunmetal chrome bronze look to it. sorry i missed MOD, car wasnt gonna be done by then.

this is why i can't finish my motor. everytime i get some money put away, this crap happens. it doesn't help i got a hard color to find in the junkyards. if only it didn't leave 2 creases at the top and bottom i could pull it out.

The wheels, we had a flat on the rear wheel set, so my dad took the front wheel set off of one of our lincoln limo's and now when he sold the limo's he kept all of them on the car, but I think the design is ugly, so I'm going to pick up some lincoln center caps for them and sell them. I prefer something smaller like the rears but idn if I like that exact style or not.

If you want to see how it is currently, check out my build. Until a new floor is welded in, the car is a sitting duck. Plus I need a new shifter because the old one rusted out with the rest of the interior, and broke.

x3 haha. Since they are stock lincoln's wheels, I was hoping to be able to sell them enough for some smaller old school looking wheels. But I agree my self about the wheels. They just don't fit the car right, for now, it is what it is. If anyone has some suggestions, since I have never really seen the car with stock or oldschool wheels, throw them in my build page or something and I'll check them out. Suggestions are always good.

test fitting an 18x8.5" rim with a +44 offset......these are the vr4 3kgt rims but, the rim i am looking to buy when i sell my eclipse is the same size/offset. i think fender flares and stretching the tire should make that look pretty good =]

that's a cool pic Jigz. And Kyle, once the car is actually lowered onto the ground with the wheels and a little bit of stretch on the tire, I think the wheel lip might actually match up with the fender fairly well

kylecanthurdle
07-26-2010, 06:21 PM
well i will get fender flares either way, and put 205/40/18 tires on them. if that stretches too much then 215/40/18s will do the trick. ive got both sizes anyway haha. plus ive gotta roll the fenders quite a bit anyway before i go lower.

You will be better off with 215s, less stretch, and .5 to 1.0 degrees more camber in front, and about .5 to .75 in the rear.

Stewi
07-26-2010, 07:58 PM
Kyle if you roll the 1/4's and fenders you can probably get away with a 235 tire and some negative camber, my old wheels were 18x8 +30 with 235's and I never rubbed, my new wheels are 18x8.5 +25 with 235's and I just barely clear with about 2 degrees camber up front and 2.5 out back.

greddy

well i will get fender flares either way, and put 205/40/18 tires on them. if that stretches too much then 215/40/18s will do the trick. ive got both sizes anyway haha. plus ive gotta roll the fenders quite a bit anyway before i go lower.

Your tail lights needs some clear coat and buffing.

when there's a birds' nest 5 feet from where you park your car, you gotta do something to prevent poop from getting on your freshly washed car! lol (and no, destroying the birds' nest is not an option)

and here's the rear visor that I'm working on. I bondo'd, primed, and still have more filling to do, but it's a lot better than it was when I bought it. You can check out my project thread (click on my sig) to see the pics of it before any work was done. I still can't decide whether I want to go white or black on the visor

These wheels are coming off and being sold ASAP most likely next spring or summer. No need to buy new wheels now when I won't be driving it yet. They are factory Lincoln wheels so hopefully I can get some good cash back for them towards the new wheels.

That's funny considering the recalls are to fix problems. I'd not like them/be worried if they didn't recall anything.

Toyota's are great cars no matter what is said. Ive witnessed plenty through out my family with no problems. Hell my aunt buys a new Camry every time the model changes, has never had a problem including the "oh no my pedal is stuck and im too retarded to know what to do about it, now im going to wreck and die" problem.

But I can understand, not everyone likes every brand of car.

It isn't so much the problem of recalls. It is the fact that much of it was denied and covered up by Toyota upper management. Not to mention never has any car company had to suspend sales during a vehicle recall, nor had to ever recall as many vehicles as Toyota has at once.

99 galant
08-01-2010, 11:57 AM
Whether the recalls fix it or not, look at how many there were and look at the issues they had. When any other company puts out a recall it is almost always to prevent an issue that can possibly accur or one that happened on a FEW.
