hi, i have a 03 ES with 40100 on my 8G.

Is it time to flush my tranny and get some new fluid?
I am still running on stock Transmission fluid.

So how long can I drive b4 i flush it? and if i flush it, will it cause the tranny to slip?

Is mitsubishi Dealer the best place to flush my tranny? they charge about $170. :?:

They do flush and change the filter but i heard and no from experience that you do not really need or suppose to change the tranny fluid frequently.

you can tell if you need to change your tranny fluid. pull the dip stick and look at the fluid. if its not pink and closer to black, change it. if it smells burnt, change it.

but yea, if you're not gonna do it yourself, mitsu is the place to do it. reason being is that most places will put a generic fluid that doesn't meet mitsu's standards. and yea, your tranny won't like that.

besides mitsu's own fluid i can only think of two off the top of my head that claim to meet mitsu's requirements and thats castrol and amsoil but i haven't tried them myself.

Dextron tranny oil I think, but be careful I just think this is one of them things you go to the dealer or mechanic for. Tranny flush are kinda cheap.

that won't work. your tranny will get angry at you. you need to find a fluid that meets Mitsubishi Diamond SP II & III specifications

use only mitsu fluid, or you will probably regret it.

and 170 bucks is a pretty damn good deal for a full flush.
take it.

I'm havin my ma call dealerships for a price quote, she said she has coupons and AAA to get me better prices from other places, would you guys (Allan) trust a garage to do the flush? If she's talkin about my old job which was Delta Sonic car wash where the do oil changes/tranny flush, I won't risk that, but would u trust a garage?

the only way i'd trust the shop is if they're using the correct fluid. the procedure is pretty simple but if u use the wrong fluid, its useless

Would they let you do it with your own fluid? A case of 6 is about $45 from the dealer, and I think a flush needs 12.

I just checked my Tranny fuild to make sure if i need a flush.

the color is redish/BROWNISH color!

i am not sure if it smells burned. but it has a burned plastic smell in it.

Is the stock fluid for 03 Gs Brownish color? :?:

Brand new transmission fluid is clear red, and has an "oil" smell, as best as I can describe it.

no tranny fluid is brownish color...you should change it.
You could get a shop to do it (other than mitsu) but I suggest like pinoy said that you buy actual Diamond ATF SP II/III. I tried a generic change before and like he said my tranny didn't like it too much.

yeh my tranny fluid was BROWN/BLACK

I got a drive tomorrow of 636.26 miles, as soon as I get home that fluid is gettin flushed

trans fluid naturally darkens slightly with age.. A light brownish hue is no big deal.
And the smell should be lightly acidic.
black fluid that smells burnt, well, thats a different story.

i found some coupons for Monro, it says what kind of fluid we need in the G's owner manual right? I'm jus gonna ask them up front if they got the right fluid before I let em do it

I want to change tranny fluid and filter but am baffled. My Haynes manual says that the filter is a spin on located next to the dipstick. I looked and all that I see is a unmachined casting where a spin-on would have gone?

the 02's don't have a servicable tranny filter. don't worry about it. if you need to service the tranny filter on an 02, you have bigger issues

Thanks. I'll just do a fluid change then. That looks REAL easy.

I'm an old school guy and these rocket scientist cars intimidate me some times. This is the first front wheel drive car I have owned as well. Gotta learn to fight back at the steering.

I just had the timing belt changed and they disconnected the battery in the process. I drove out and went right back since the tranny was shifting wildly. Turned out the computer just needed retraining. THis is gonna be an education.

I miss my 67 Firebird.

dont be intimidated. in all honesty, todays cars are actually simpler than yesturdays cars, but for the electronics.
I frankly find it TONS easier to work on a 01 galant than a 67 firebird.... you just need different tools.

What ever you do man do NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! put regularr -generic tranny fluid in there! Make sure you use Mitsubishi's brand. i know cuz mine went after i had it changed with convent synth. Pump inside the tranny failed and had to be repaired. Major $$$$
