I would like to try to replace my thermostat today since Im off from work. I have been searching for a tutorial on how to replace it. Does anyone know of a source that will show how to replace one on an 8G? I dont even know where the thermostat is located. what all needs to be done in order to replace one?

Thanks

alright here is a little general howto.

let the car cool off

remove the radiator cap

locate the thermostat.

unclamp the rubber hose

let the fluid drain out, ( make sure to wash it off so no animals get hurt https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif )

i think there are 2 12mm bolts holding the thermostat cover.

remove them

now you should be able to see the thermostat

try to remove it , if it doesnt budge use pliers ( remember how the thermostat was installed)

check if there is a rubber ring arround the thermostat ( you might have to transfer it over to the new thermostat)

install thermostat.

the thermostat cover will most likely need a new gasket, replace it now.

reinstall everything.

fill the car with coolant.

you will most likley have to "burb" the system to remove any exess air.

voila, you're done.

hope this helps.!

I still have not got around to it yet. I have been trying to do other repairs first. The part that scares me is the " "burb" the system to remove any exess air" part. I have no clue how to do this. I need a gasket for the cover also.
