Newbie here. Recently purchased 03 Galant last month.Couple of problems came up.
First, when I got the car, the heat was not working, it blows cold air. I checked to make sure the a/c button is not on, and the temp gauge on the red side, still cold air. I made an appointment with the dealer, but the next day, when I started the car, I heard a strange clanking/grinding sound from the front of the dashboard and a few minutes later the heat came on when I tried to check it. It lasted about a week when I heard the clanking/grinding sound again, on the heat blows cold air again. What seems to be the problem? CAn someone shed light on this? Finally, I took it to the dealer, they changed the thermostat, but still the same problem.
Then the other day, the clanking/grinding happened and I have heat again. Please help!!

Second, when I am driving stop and go, the temp guage goes to the middle, which is normal. But when I am on highway, the temp gauge goes all the way down to cold. Then service engine light came on. I pulled the code P0128, coolant temp below thermostat regulating temp. I also experience coolant loss from the reservoir, and after driving for several time, radiator cap is warm to the touch, but not hot, radiator seems cool, and I havent heard the fan going at all. What gives? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Keebop

I had that problem on my lumina with the heater. I replaced the heater motor with a used one and it worked for a while then quit a week later. They also said it could be a relay, near the fuse box i think.

You should definalty take it back to the dealer and get it serviced. Here's a thread on the heat thing.
