I have yet to see the detail but I kinda like the overall silhoutte. We can not tell much w/o the detail. Remember that they have to make it bigger in order to be competitive in the market. That is the direction of every midsize car is going like camry, accord, altima. Granted it does not look like our 8G's BMW'esque styling, but I feel that mitsu need to come up with original design sooner or later anyway.
Judging from the car's overall shape though it is on par with altima, definitley better than camry or that ugly bloated new accord. Remember that altima design is pretty good although not spectacular.
What we would really hope that it has performance to back it up, with 240 hp accord it is about time for mitsu to wake up and drive.

Yeah I'm glad I have the 99 ,the front end looks will be hard to beat for a long time. Maybe i'll keep my car around and put in the more powerfull engine in to avoid getting a Pontiac looking Galant.

I agree! You can't really make out much. Except for the fact that it has some very straight lines on the side. Lets see what it looks like a little closer to production. As far as the new Accord goes, the only thing I like on that is the S Class look-a-like taillights! Honda fell after the release of the new and UGLY civics!

Here's what I made with Photoshop. My frontend styling is pretty much based on 2002 Galant, Outlander, not to mention several concepts. I didnt change the overall shape at all, you can see that they try to maintain the shape of 8G. We would have that big split grille though for sure, just like PSU and outlander.
I would say that Mitsu has taken some cue from BMW 7 frontend. Just like the 3 series influence on the 8G.
Other than that, I would not judge that as a bad car, well at least until we got into more detail.

Exactly that car is bagged up and masked up meaning what? Its not showing its true lines. I have seen many a test mule car driving down the Highways here in Michigan and for the most part the entire car is covered.

All i hope is that is gets at LEAST a 5spd tranny. because my boy just informed me the Accord is getting a 6spd manual in the V6 model finally. Mitsubishi better step to the plate as far as tranny and engine ability and power. Looks remain to be seen. But I'll for sure get pics at the Detroit Auto Show this January!!

I won't "condemn" it yet but from the overall shape of it I also will be moving on in a few years. I dislike the Camry and Accord immensely and can only take so much of the Altima.

All midsize cars gonna be this big, thats inevitable. If I look at honda accord now i would say that 1998 looks better but sometimes thing just have to grow on you.
When the altima spied, nissan ppl with their 240sx, maximas hated it coz it looks bloated. Now that it is out and have 240 hp they just keep bragging it.
What really important is that Mitsu better put some muscle behind. Nothing a 240 hp + 6 speed manual can't fix. Remember that this is platform for next gen eclipse too, so they cant make it too soft.

Yeah it looks like american car coz I think part of it getting bigger is for most americans bigger means better. Seems like mazda is the only jap company that go against the mainstream with its Mazda 6 and it looks damn good too.
Reason for this is coz most of us like euro/jap styling better than american. The 8G is styled for Japanese/Euro market too thats why it looks good. for example, the last accord that is trully global accord which is 94-97 looks the best IMO. So does IS300, G35, Mazda 6, 350Z, RX8 etc.
If you read euro magazine they always dislike american designed car, label them as bland and cumbersome such as accord and civic coupe, camry etc.

Well without the mask and rear cover the photo shop job looks pretty damn good, you got talent whoever did that and the 2004 Galant actually looks nice kind of like the 7 series bimmer. But thats just a photo shop job so Im not getting happy and were not sure it will look like that photo shop anyway. All I know is that with that mask on it looks ugly and boxy and very corny looking. I guess I should have a little more patience, because it is covered up, but I was expecting Mitsubishi to be more original than copying the Altima and Camrys shape or make the Galant look more like the shape of the Lincoln LS, or something totally different but thats just me.

I just hope they dont just slap that Diamante engine there and dont tweak it out, they need to get that 205 hp the engine puts out to at least 225-235, considering the competition is blowing Mitsubishi away. And they need a manual thats for sure at least on the GTZ. Ill try and show more faith but I just cant imagine a GTZ with that shape, maybe I just love the 8G design a little too much.

PS KinGAzteK02LA nobody is selling out on Mitsubishi. Its a matter of opinion and some people just want Mitsubishi to be on top for once cuz we like their cars and the company. We like to voice our opinions if we feel the shit their coming out with is no good were not gonna pretend its hot just because its got the triple diamond on it.

Now that I think about it I doubt Mitsubishi will probably do anything with the 3.5 liter Diamante engine, probably just leave the output at 205 and think thats good enough for the 2004 Galant. And they will be back in the same spot where they started from with a weak ass engine trying to haul that heavy body around and wondering why it comes in last on car reviewers track tests compared to other family sedans.

Only Mitsubishi knows the answers to all these questions : (

no doubt T3, I think thats what we all want too---but with all the stronger engines all the other competition is coming out with, mitsu. is definitely gonna have to take it a step up to compete w/ the competition!

Everyone is going all out on the engine department. I cant base too much on looks considering the picture I posted of the 2004 Galant is covered up but I hope the brains working at Mitsubishi realizes that just slapping in the 3.5liter 205hp engine from the Diamante is not going to cut it, they need to tweak the shit out of that engine. The HP needs to be at least 225-235, nothing less, they need a powerful engine to get that big space ship shaped Galant moving.

But knowing those morons they will just slap the Diamantes 3.5 liter 205hp engine in the galant and call it something new and once again every car in the Galants class will whoop on it. They better get it together or the Accord will be just another car that will kill the Eclipse and the Galant.

From what I can tell I do not like the car. I am sure it will have a nice front end and some nice body lines and be real sleek when its finally revealed.

That was some nice photoshop pics.. but I still think that the 99 - 2001 model is the best time for Galant. Even the 7G looks better then the new 9Gs.... see after a kit.. JDM ligts... the Galant looks very very nice.. too bad we don't have what VR4 has.. turbo...and 4WD, but who cares... our Galant still looks good...too bad.. You have yet to see the entire actual car. All you saw was a car wrapped up in covers. They may even decide to change the car again before its release date you never know. But you also never know exactly what it looks like until it is released. So lets give Mitsubishi a break and when it does finally become released with actual pics we can bitch or brag about it then. For now lets just wait and see.

I guess that photo was from a recent auto show and cameras were not allowed so thats why the pic kinda sux, dunno if thats the galant for sure, but those headlights and front shape sure look the same as the spy photo atleast, and yeah that is supposed to be the u.s. evo in the yellow

The 8G didn't come raging up from the back of the pack in sales because they went for a generic looking design. The 99-00 Galant has a very aggressive posture and forward leaning wedge. I don't know what sales look like for Galants, but I'll bet you they spiked in 2000. The 02 looks like a f___ing Pontiac, and it blunts the tip of the wedge too much. If I bought a current one, I'd have to get rid of that nose. People bought the Galant (V6)because it was up to or superior to the Accord V6, the Maxima of 99 or the Camry and was markedly less expensive and the statement it made was, "yeah, I've taken on some responsibilities, but I still get laid once in a while". I think designers have concluded that Americans want bland, tylenols on wheels since we've been buying them en masse. They fail to recognize that that is pretty much all we've been offered. How does a culture as conservative as Japan's get such great cars?

How do you guys know if its not maybe another Mitsubishi that they are going to introduce to the States in the future. You forget that there are about 4-5 other models of Mitsu's that we do not get to see at all. So by process of elimination it may or may not be the Galant, we don't know!!! Thats the whole point we don't know!!! I mean does it fricken say GALANT in big words on the windshield??!! NO!!! It could be the Diamante for all we know, just because its not as big or that, maybe they decided to downsize the Diamante. Who knows?? And who cares?? I can't believe that soo many people are angered and disgusted at this supposed new "galant". You have yours now so that is that. Drive what you have and do what you want to your car now and talk about that here on the forums, and when it comes time to see the new Galant when it is released we will see it and then offer are feedback. But we don't know shit and don't know if that is the new Galant or not. And just by looking at the headlights in the spy photo and the car show photo doesn't do anything either. There could be more Mitsu's with the same headlights. Look at the brand new 2003 Dodge Viper whos headlights are newly designed, well those same headlights are also on the 2004 Dodge Charger (which will be replacing the Intrepid). So cars do share the same headlights. So my point is lets quit the whining and bitching about what the car looks like and just forget it and wait until the new Galant actually comes out and then voice our opinions.

Damn you guys are slow. I posted this pic a while ago. That is the new Galant and the EVO 8. Click here for my post. ('http://www.tgc-forums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=177') The silver car in this photo is the same as the one on Edmunds and it is the Galant. I read the confirmation on a thread on Lancerforums but the thread got shut down by Mitsu or someone.

It does look like an Altima from the side, but I like the Altimas. I wish Mitsu would have came up with their own design, but that's what happens when Chrysler is doing the designing. That's why it looks like a 300M too. I'm not too crazy about the front, but if the HP is 240+ then it will be a big seller here in the states. And don't expect a manual tranny, Mitsubishi knows that it won't sell.

I personally think that the new galant is decent, maybe it has to grow on me. But on the looks alone I would still pick it over that ugly accord, camry or even altima. Granted its not as not as sharp as Mazda 6 but some design just have to grow on you. They cannot make the car that is gonna look obsolete in 2 years. Trust me, 4-5 years from now we all gonna look back and said that 8G still looks nice but its still gonna look like a car from late nineties.

O.K. So it looks really bad!!!! But keep the faith. First of all like someone said above, we haven't seen the final version yet. Second of all, if it is that bad it will only last one generation. Lets see... look at: galant,accord, grand am, and a lot of other makes. It's almost a trend to make one generation really cool and cutting edge, and the next bland and ugly. Almost any make has a trend like this! Early 90's galants were Great! (not to mention that they had the GSX and VR4) then the 7G's (sorry guys but i had one as a rental, and a 3 speed in a 98..please. not to mention looks. the only way to make them look good is to add an EVO body kit) . Then at last the "savior", 8g galant Cool, Polite, and a little different in a good way. "The poor mans BMW". So it's only natural that the 9g is going to be ugly. And if the 7g came standard w/ a 3 speed in a time of 4 speeds, then expect the 9g to come w/ a 4 speed in a time of 5 speeds. And 205-215 HP sounds about right for the V6, 150-160 for the 4cyl. Hey Mabe they'll follow Altima in one other way...Power. Would people really buy an altima if it weren't 240 HP! Not Me!
