knockin?

recently i noticed a funny sound comin from my car. and before u suggest it, its not the lifter tick or whatever.
but whenever im on the brake, i hear a weird knocking sound, and as soon as i let off the brake it goes away...
any ideas?

i think i can only hear it when im completely stopped...ill pay closer attention to it tomorrow.

what's ya mileage, check your oil.
Does the sound come from around your #1 or #2 piston?

i just changed my oil out 600 miles ago...i have about 70,6xx miles on the car..
it doesnt sound like the noise is comin from my pistons, or my engine at all.
like i sed its only when i am completely stopped with my foot on the brake..

might be a motor mount. does the car idle different to go along with the sound?

could be crankwalk. change ur oil, go syn. could be something loose around ur engine bay.[/b]

hmm...didnt realize it could be so many different things.
if i put the car in park, the knocking goes away. but it does it when im in gear...i dunno if that helps or not..

Do you have a CAI? make sure it's mounted right and that it's not broken off the engine. when you press your break and you hear that sound, I think something that is attached to the engine is not tight enough so it shakes with the engine and touches one of the metal parts of your car. I used to have this problem and I found out that my mount for the CAI was broken and that it was loose.

If nothing is loose, then it's most likly one of your engine mounts.

sounds like your ABS pump, do you feel anything in the pedal?

i dont have ABS...at least i didnt think i did...
ill check my CAI tomorrow...as well as all the other suggestions...thanks guys...ill keep u updated.

when your stoped hold the brake pedal down ALL the way and tap/press the gas pedal if u hear the knocking its your motor mounts

tried this tonight. when i tapped the gas pedal, the knocking stopped. then continued afterwards.

Also check your front brake pads.

try doing it with someone looking under the hood listening for the knocking

i think is your brake line or brakes. Check the Brakes.

if the Car is on Netural or Park, and car at idle, It doesn't make that nosie?

if is in Gear, and it makes taht sound, it could be your Tranny or brakes.

dude, you just got your answer...it's your motor mounts. You have three motor mounts and one transmission mount.


as i was reading this thread i was thinking, motor mounts, motor mounts.

what engine do you have so we can tell you where they are at? It's a pretty complicated job if you haven't done it or seen it done before, so i would suggest just taking it to the shop. and to it quick because one bad mount wll make the others go bad too. I ended up replacing three of them.

i have the 4g64 engine..i thought it wouldnt be my motor mounts cuz didnt he say that if it stopped if i tapped the gas then it wasnt?
i also noticed tonight...i was on a slope, so i took my foot off the brake and the car didnt move, but was still in drive and it was still makin the noise. so its basically whenever i am stopped and in gear...ill have to find a friend https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif to listen closely to it so i know exactly where its comin from..
