Hey im making a set of headlights using a set of Acura TL projectors and balasts. Ive got everything mounted and ready, I just need to hook up this balast so i can aim these things for my customer. There are three wires. Red, black coming from the balast, and another black wire with a female "slip on style" connector on it . I didnt want to fry the balast/bulbs so can someone confirm were these wires go for me. And its not an H4 bulb BTW. I searched and couldnt find exactly what i was looking for.

should just be fine hooking up the red and black. the projectors are bixenon and autoleveling, could be a high beam related or extra ground for those other features, not too familiar with tl xenons tho, just they have bad ass color.

The wire for the bi-xenon function is on the projector. That is a ballast and an ignitor. I would go with a different ballast minus the separate ignitor.

nah they arent bixenon, they are just low beam i believe. I was thinking red goes to the battery (fused of course) black to a chasis or battery ground... and then maybe the other black was to the positive lead for the low beams, so the headlights know when to go on/off, kinda like a remote wire.... Is that possible?

Hid lights do not switch off when the high beams are activated. Usually the shield moves up so the cutoff is higher (bi-xeonon) or the low beam hid will stay on when the halogen highbeam is activated. Also, I'm pretty sure that tl projectors are bi-xenons. I was about to buy a pair before I got my tsx projectors

Yea, i dont think these are TL projectors after all, they are actually the TSX.

OK, so does the red wire go straight to the battery or does it go to the positive wire for the low beams...?? Everywhere ive read says that you wire it to your battery, but then how do your headlights know when to turn on/off.... what am i missing here.

I dont know what that extra wire is for. If you are just testing you can just connect to your battery, but for long term, you are going to need a relay. This is the wiring diagram that I used. This was posted by PlugsNet

From the diagram you can see that the wire from 85 is connected to the headlight harness. I did'nt do that. I went straight to the low beam fuse, and my headlights work just the same. If my lights are on, they will turn off once the car is off and I open the door. The relay is what does the trick

I'd try the extra lead that is by itself as a negative trigger first. most cars use negative triggers for most accesories. it just depends on where they have a relay. If you try it as negative first you don't have to wory about frying them.
