how to change 99 I4 spark plugs

Need some help here.
How do you change the spark plugs on a 99 ES I4?
How many plugs should I get 4 or 8??
Is there any special tools I need to change the plugs?
Where are the plugs located?
What kind of plugs do you guys use??

should I change the wires?

I am sure that it is probly a very simple question I am asking but I am a car newbie so I want to make sure I do it right.

You need 4 plugs. One for each cylinder. You may want to invest in a good manual for the car to help you do the simple maintenance. Check out your local library if you don't want to buy one.

2 of the plugs are obvious and two of the plus are underneath some coil packs (not as obvious). I've heard some on the board talk about Iridium Plugs... but I'd get NGK's since it's a Japanese engine. Make sure you get the right heat range plugs.

You need a rachet set (with spark plug socket) to change the plugs and an extension.

You may want to buy wires as you have a 99 Changing them one at a time will prevent you from getting them mixed up. You can probably get something from a local auto store or a dealer.


Again, I'd probably invest in a decent manual for the car if your not very experienced in general tune ups on cars...

actually the ones that i pulled out were champion plugs. i thought they were going to be ngks. i have denso iridiums and magnecore wires. i like it but kinda expensive. . . if you go to the local store i'd get ngks. as for the wires get a good brand. i bought cheap ones before and the connectors came off when i did another tune up on my old car. i heard bosch plugs are bad. its pretty easy to do the tune up. don't forget to put some dielectric grease on the boots . i would change the wires the same time.

Am i the only guy on with the Denso Plugs, i love those thinks i have about 4 sets of those plugs and another 2 sets of the ZEX plugs, but i use Talyor 10.4mm wires instead of the 8.4, bigger spark.. I had the NGK copper plugs and i didnt like them 2 much, the denso's do my engine really well..

are you referring to the wires or the plugs as being the best?
