1st to 2nd "kick"

hey guys. My car used to do this even before i got my tranny rebuilt. When I accelerate kinda quick and even somethimes when I don't, it gives a pretty noticable "kick" when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. My tranny isn't slipping, at least I hope not, just spent like $1400 on the rebuild. It's just really annoying. Any ideas before I bring it to the shop? Thanks

gears prolly missing some teeth... my uncles suzuki does it.. but then thats an automatic.. but im almost positive that maybe one of the gears are missing teeth

Naw, mine's done that too...have you reset your ecu lately? I get it right after I reset my ECU and eventually it goes away...likely from the intelligent transmission and the fuel mapping genie https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

it's an automatic and my ECU hasn't been reset in a long time. prolly since the rebuild which was like 8 months ago. im pretty sure the tranny is covered so I guess i'll have them take a look at it. Thanks guys.

ok I brought it to the tranny place and took the guy out for a test drive. He heard and felt the "kick" and said they needed to make some adjustments and put in a new tranny mount. $120 later and an "ok" drive home, it still does the kick. The guy reassured me they used mitsu fluid and he checked the levels. The gears have all their teeth. I have no idea whats going on. I'm bout to flip on these guys. :evil:

did you take it to aamco? it sounds like an aamco job to me lol

they're full of shit and will continue abusing your trust and patience. rebuilding the 7g auto tranny is hard and is rarely done properly, for whatever reason. all these goody-goody american boys in their tranny repair shops can rebuild any domestic transmission, but can't take apart an import tranny to save their life. i blew over 2 grand having aamco rebuild my auto transmission, and they gave me a shiesty 3 month warranty, asking if i wanted to blow another grand on a 2 year warranty :roll: you have to be kidding

2 weeks after it was rebuilt it shifted harder than a midget having a heart attack driving a 10-sec car with nitrous. i kept bringing it to them and they insisted new transmissions shifted like that and i was just used to my old worn tranny. i asked the guy if whiplash was normal when the transmission shifted, he said it's just aggressive. at that point i knew i had completely wasted $2,000 and wouldn't get a penny of it back. if i had any money i would have sued their ass, but they continued to deny to honor the warranty. they even refused to inspect it for free because they knew they fucked up.

threaten to press charges if they don't fix it for free and contact the BBB no matter what happens. you shouldn't be bossed around by a company that's making tons of money off you

I took it to a place called Lee Myles Transmissions. This car never used to do this until maybe a year ago. And they say "well, maybe it's because you drive aggressively" BS, sometimes it even hesitates to shift from 1st to 2nd when I gradually push the gas and when i give it a bit more gas it kicks like mad. I will call them tomorrow and see what the hell is going on. I've never driven a car that has done this and everytime I drive with someone, I have to constantly hear, "Is it supposed to do that?". The tranny has a 2 year warranty included in the $1700 price tag. I'm not gonna sue them for a tranny tho lol, but the BBB will know about it if they don't do what they are supposed to. I'm looking into a new car soon anyway so I can stop getting headaches from this thing. I'll miss it though haha. :cry: We'll see what they say tomorrow.

- Is the TCU (Transmission Control Unit) working correctly?
*Might have to get it checked at the dealer or a place locally that deals with ECU mods*

- Is the ATF properly withing OEM levels?

- If the tranny has a warranty...take it back.

bad rebuild job.

the trans is not adaptive on the 7th gen... it should shift BASICALLY the same no matter what. Meaning it should be pretty much nice, normal, smooth shifts. You may get a slightly harsher shift when cold, or when you goof on the gas pedal (meaning you romp on it then let off, only to quickly romp on it again).
ammco sucks. Most independant tranny shops suck.


there is a reason mitsu rebuilds are more expensive.... and that is because they dont suck.
