Hit with some PB Blaster and let sit a minute and then take a rubber mallet to it mine was kinda hard to get off but no you not missing anything just got a bang and wiggle it off.

my suggestion. those two nuts in the top, put them back on but not to tight. just enough so that when the bottom comes out, it just doesn't drop on you.

secondly, just tap the shock near the bottom towards the middle of the car.

pb blaster is your friend.

when i was doing my rears. the shock was rusted onto the bolt like crazy. i wedged a jack between the shock assembly and the rear drum and starting jacking them apart. it was on so tight that it bent the shock absorber. when it finally started to budge, the shock popped off of the rubber insert in the middle instead of the metal ring inside the rubber. i had to take a dremel to cut the metal ring off.

Such a deja vu... your missing the part where the suspension on your MN car rusted to hell, that's all. I went through the same exact deal.

thanks for all the help/suggestions! https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

after i posted the message, we banged on the thing for about another 30 minutes. i came back, read what you guys had posted.

we said screw it ended up taking the dremel to the bottom link on BOTH sides.

we cut that, and like gtx said above... goddamn MN winters... the rubber bushings had fused themselves right onto the metal sleeve on the inside of the shocks.

so we cut off the old shocks, and then cut away the old bushing. we ground down the inside bolt to get all the old bushing off, and threw the new shocks on with no problem.

i cant believe how easy the front was... but the back - AHH! i was swearing more than samuel jackson in 'snakes on a plane!' 'im sick... of these mother fuckin shocks on this car!' https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

will post some pics this weekend! thanks again guys! much appreciated.

oh yeah - my car finally looks like the car in my sig, but now without photoshop https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
