I've been trying to decide what kind of hood pins to get for my EVO CF hood, but I can't decide. If anyone has any comments on the following types, let me know, especially if you know about any flaws or installation trouble with certain types. These are the different types that I have seen:

Lock type:

Sliding Pin type:

Hairpin type 1:

Hairpin type 2:

Torsion Pin type:

I'm really thinking of getting the Lock type, but if I lose the keys, I'm screwed.

Where did you find those locking hood pins? I have been looking for them for a long time. I want to go with those personally just because I have had friend's cf hoods taken when they were at the mall or at the movies. If you could hook me up with a web site I would appreciate it. thanks

I was talking at the track with a guy with a mustang that had the locking pins, Dave. His problem was that one of the studs actually broke and his hood was sticking up slightly on one side. He said the stud broke when he hit a pothole. Made me question the strength of the locking mechanism. I personally like the torsion style for looks, but if security is an isue for your CF hood, you're limited in your choices.

All of those pics came from Summit Racings website, they are from different companies. The locking ones are from a company called Mr. Gasket. Click here ('http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=%2Fsection%2Easp%3Fd%3D7%26s%3D 134').

Theft, in my mind, is always an issue. But, it wouldn't be hard to drill a hole right through the center of the lock on the Locking hood pins and if they do break easily, I will consider getting the Torsion Pin type.

The thing I'm wondering is how many people would really consider stealing a hood from a Galant? I mean there aren't many people out there hooking up Galants, so why would someone steal something that they might not be able to sell? Unless they are crack heads or know exactly where to sell a Galant hood, I don't think they would bother stealing one.

you can never be too safe....no1 might not steal your car in your area, but you don't just stay in your area with you car, you go places

dont get the locking hood pins, i repeat do not...they have problems lining up on certain hoods, my friend had them on a civic and since most import cars have hoods that are slanted down, the pin doesnt line up into the lock correctly...that locking pin is good for an old car that has a flat hood... they dont line up right but if you dont trust me go for it

The sliding pin type is nice, a friend of mine uses them on his Mustang. He used to have the 'hairpin' style, stay away from them, they suck.

I found those hood locks too and bought them, when I went home to install them, found out that my cf hood had two layers in which you have to drill twice. One for the lock which is too short, u need to drill another hole bigger than the hole for the lock to get the lock nut on. So, I decided not drill and took back them back. I'm tryin to find locks that are longer, talking bout the lock shaft from the head down. if anyone has found any let me know.

I hear yah, I live in AR and a lot of people here have Galants, granted. But I and like one other person I have seen are the only one's tricking our Galants out, So im not too terribly worried about someone nabbing my gear.

Thanks for the comments, I guess I will steer clear of the locking type. I was wondering myself how well they would line up with a slanted hood. I'm probably going to get the torsion pin type. The sliding pin type seem like a good choice as well, but I just think the shape of them looks ugly.

I got momo sliding type ones. They are a little bit more but have ss and anodized parts.

the sparco ones look nice as well and are all ss.

Yes I broke down and decided to get pins as well. I was going to try to avoid it, but with those big scoops and shooting for 12's next summer I figured it was time to get them before I lose a hood.

Yeah one more thing about those hairpin like the one I use is if a mechanic is not careful & just take the pins off it will leave a scratch on your painted or carbon fiber hood https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

Don't buy the ones pictured there. Atleast not the ones by the company I posted. I bought them and when I opened them, the chrome was coming off. I sent them back and just bought some Sparco hood pins.
