I have a 2000 galant LS. I just bought some 3rd gen Jdm tailights off ebay, and they have four sockets... I only have 3 coming out of my car, and also none fit the new tailights. Is there some type of new harness that i can get to convert it over, or will it just not work???

No place that I know of sells harnesses that make the JDM tails work with a USDM Galant. If you have the JDM harness this is the easy way:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a170/afdj006/jdm_tails_wiring.jpg
If you dont have the JDM harness you will have to add a bulb to your stock harness.

I did the first choice, it is not hard at all.

Here ChikagoGTZ (dave) tourial this was very helpful for me.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> That pic is fucking useless. I'm going to tell all you this from memory, as I dont have any harness in front of me at the moment and it's raining so I cant remove mine to help you...hope I remember everything correct &#60;!--emo&;)--&#62;https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif&#60;!--endemo--&#62;

Here what you do....

1) Remove your harness from the USDM tails (hope you didnt cut em all up!!)
2) Plug the harness in and turn on your car. Use all the functions and lable the 3 bulbs/allocated wires with their function (stop, turn, reverse)

Then....

3) Cut off the Stop light bulb, take 2 of the new sockets and twist the solid green wires together, then twist the green/white wires together. Now for me I matched the white/green up with the solid green and vice versa (not sure why this was but it worked) Just twist them together and tape them over for now...put in some bulbs and test it. You should have 2 stop lights now!!

4) Cut off the reverse light from your USDM Tails. Dont cut it too close, you'll rewire this later for your new turn signal light. Twist up a JDM socket to the 2 wires, only use 2 of the wires from the JDM Harness (white/green to red and black to white/black) tape it and test it out, you should have a turn signal now.

5) Finally cut off the USDM turn signal bulb and wire the USDM reverse bulb to that spot. Red wire to blue/green and black to black.

Once you have 1 harness built as a model and tested to verify that it works...you'll be ready to build it by soldering and cutting the wires to proper length. I'd suggest making the wires short enough to fit but not too long since they will not fit behind the tails easily.

Also, in order to fit the reverse socket and the turn signal socket, you'll need to cut one of the small tabs off the socket. You'll be able to determine what one when you try to fit it in. Just use a utility knife and cut the one tab off, this way the bulb will fit without forcing it in....

Good luck...PM me if you need more help! I gotta take my other car for an oil change, but I'll be home later.

found this on the old yahoo board:

the tails bolt on perfect... that's the easy
part. here's the problem: the jdm tails take 4 bulbs
per side and the us spec take 3. so either u have to
get the jdm harness, sockets and bulbs or bore out
the jdm tails and add another socket into the harness
to match. if u choose the latter option, u'll need
to get 2 single filament sockets and bulbs set (1
for each side) and rewire the tails to accomodate the
new bulbs and bulb duties. the 2 double filament
bulbs are now both parking and brake. the single clear
is the reverse and u have to add a single amber for
signal. it's not too hard, just takes a lil time. good
luck! o btw i got 'em in asia on a business trip. i
don't know about how to go about covering the fogs
though.

Okay, so I got them in. The harness that goes through the frame had to be hacked abit (last GB 3rd gens) but I didn't add the 4th light. Are the turnsignals suppose to be running lights?

on the jdm's the turn signal are wired just to be turn signals. the parking lights are with the brake lights.

Yeah, but I just used the stock harness. Other than getting a JDM harness is there anything I can do about this?

Just splice in a new socket.

Will the signals still be running lights? And how will I wire up the new sockets?

Thanks for all the help guys, took me about 3 hours and a six pack to get them in there and working, but what a diffrence! Only thing that sucks is the only sockets i could find where at an auto zone, and they are a really tight squeeze. but there are no gaps so im not to worried about it. Once again thanks to everyone who posted a reply, it really helped me out alot.

Got one side done. I have to go to the other side of town and find another gm socket(autozone was out of stock). Just curious; should the new socket be superbright? It looks like I have the brake pedal pushed down. I have switched the bulb around but it still seems to be very bright. Any suggestions?

the new socket should be your signals...

I followed DryBears tut to the T on GF. His tutorial shows the extra socket being a parking light.

i'll have to read his tutorial to make sure the lights work correctly. the top two sockets should b dual filament clear dim parking/bright brake. the reverse should be 1 socket single filament clear and the signal should b 1 socket single filament amber. that is the correct arrangement true to JDM functionality.
