This is the first generation Galant. This model was manufactured from 1969 until 1972.

In 1973 the Galant got a subtle make over. This body style was continued until 1975.

In 1976 the Galant recieved a drastic make over. This car was manufactured to look sporty, and appeal to the younger buyer. This style was continued until 1980

http://www.wrhs.net/webdesignprojects_spring2005/jpm_web_graphics/Mitsubishi(1981-1982).jpg
In 1980 the Galant recieved another make over. This time is was turned into an afordable family vehicle. This style lasted until 1982.

By the time 1983 rolled around the Galant needed to once again be changed. This time is became classy and more sophisticated. This style was used until 1986.

http://www.wrhs.net/webdesignprojects_spring2005/jpm_web_graphics/Mitsubishi(1987-1991).jpg
In 1987 the Galant was slighty changed. Notice the front and rear bumpers. This remained the style until 1993.

http://www.wrhs.net/webdesignprojects_spring2005/jpm_web_graphics/Mitsubishi(1992-1995).jpg
In the year 1994 the Galant recieved a very modern sleek look. The car looked very ahead of it's time in comparison to other vehicles in it's class. This was the style until 1998

http://www.wrhs.net/webdesignprojects_spring2005/jpm_web_graphics/Mitsubishi(1996-2003).jpg
In 1998 Mitsubishi took the small economy car and stretched it into a larger more powerful car (enter the V6). When this modle first came out it was sometimes mistaken for a BMW.

2002-2003 the Galant had another slight makeover. New front bumper, black headlights and new tail lights.

sideview mirrors on the front corners of the hood, that's how I'd roll

the 8G is the ultimate culmination of all previous generations, I love it. Don't get me wrong though, I love the 6 and 7 G's as well. 5G and earlier I wasn't alive haha

the 9G is in a whole new design class of its own with a sporty/futuristic look, definitely a preview of the Galant's future as a sweet family sedan

The 7G will never be ugly!!!!!!!!! the 6G isn't too bad, but who cares, if its a VR-4 it doesn't have to look preety to spank alot of stuff out today.

the history is all mixed up, and part wrong.

you start off talking about japan and the 1g galant which was never sold in the US.

then u said the 6g is the 5g with different bumpers

then for some reason we ended up in the US and their models.

and probably some more other stuff.

It´s funny if i open both wiki´s side-by-side.... to see what engines run at the european market and what at the american market. So the early Galants where in Europe equipped with bigger engines. My 5G for example runs with 2,4 L 4G64 since 1984, that is in US/AUS totally unknown...

The first Galant in the US to actually be called a Galant was the 5G Galant Sigma, which came with the 6G72 12v V6. Earlier gens were sold via Dodge/Chrysler as the Colt/Challenger/Sapporo.

The 1988 Galant Sigma was renamed to just Sigma in 1990 up to 1991, where it was replaced by the Diamante. The 5G was pretty advanced for its time, and had lots of gadgets to rival the 8G! (Adjustable power steering from normal to sport, available electronically controlled air suspension with adjustable ride stiffness and height, fully automatic climate control with optical sensors). It was pretty much touted as a luxury car.

mitsu has always been a euro desinged car. and a powerlfull jap enterprise. from making tvs their own electronics, and part plus electronics for all other jap companies. and korea and in the 90's the dreaded chrysler muts.

and the galant has always been decades before its time and led to the great mistus we see today like the evo, the 3000gt whcich is almost forgoten, and its bigger cousin the diamante.
its a shame for the car that started it all that its been left behind in the us market.
i mean scrapping the GS plans after just under 1.5 years in prodution, thy shoulda finished it of by turboing the damn thing and selling it. but no the eclipse and its 2door sport car competition left it behind.

its the car that inspired the rest of the world.
look under the hood of any 94 under import jap car and u see mitsubishi everywhere.

cmon the starion even had a built in radar detector .
