I already know that the stock/non-turbo 4G63 is better than the 4G64, but could someone start by giving me some head to head specs, and maybe a price of what buying a rebuilt 4G63 would cost? On top of that, I've heard that the 4G63 head swap is possible on the 4G64 block. With the different bore/stroke between the two motors, what kind of mods would need to be done? Would the intake have to carry over as well? Is the 4G64 intake better? Would the car itself have to be modded? Would the 4G64 internals (pushrods, rotating assembly...etc) or ECU and sensors have to change? And what is the benefit with just a 4G63 head swap? I looked around but everything I've read is still a lil' hazy. I mean 5-speed swap topics are bountiful, but the hybridization of a 2.4L 63 is still scarce. Thanks if someone could correct me with a link that I couldn't find, or a bit of info.

Its been done, guy. Do a search for 4G63 headswap and you should come up with quite a few threads. BTW, Welcome....

who said the 4G63 is better than the 4G64? the 64 is better. more power, stock that is. and thats dohc 63 vs. sohc 64.

search well, here is a recent discussion about the two engines

what are you talking about? who said a stock SOHC 4G64 has more power than a stock DOHC 4g63???

the 4G63 is turbo'd the 4G63 in the 1G Eclipse has about 190 hp and the 4G63 in the 2G has about 210.

not to mention the 4G63 in the EVO, talk about 280 hp.

and what does the SOHC 4G64 pump out?? a measly 140 hp??

no doubt the 4G64/4G63 head hybrid is more powerful when built. But you cant rev as high as the 4G63.

But stock to stock

4G63>4G64

didnt realize the thread posted up there. i didnt realize you were talking about a N/A 4G63... why would anyone build a N/A 4G63??

Come on Jigz :P

4g63t > 4g64 > 4g63

4g63 = NA DOHC 2.0 = less powerful then a stock SOHC NA 4g64.

But this is the first generation. Did they even make a second generation 4g63 NA? I know some KIAs come with motors that have an Evo head, but is it still a 2.0?

Either way, once you swap to a DOHC 4g63 head(no matter if its a KIA or Evo head) you can no longer use the stock 4g64 intake maifold, the runners are different. The stock 4g63/t intake manifold should flow better anyway. You do not need to change the block internals at all. I know with the 7g head swap, there are some extra drain galleys that need to be plugged as the DOHC head does not cover them, but other then that the DOHC head should bolt right up.

there is a second gen 4g63 n/a version. not here in the US but in the other parts in the world, thats what's found in the 8g i4's still a sohc motor. looks identical to the 4g64 used int he us but you will notice that its a 2.0 and not a 2.4 like the 64's

we were talking N/A. but needless to say dohc 4G64 like proto's kills dohc 4G63. the turbo 63 only pups out like 40 more hp than N/A dohc 64

Probably runs just 1-2psi less then the GSX. GST needs traction ;)

So a n/a 63 makes 125hp, and a n/a 64 makes 141hp, and a dohc 64 makes 160hp. Why do guys go for the swap to the 63? Is it for the turbo and tuning options? Since in my case money IS an option, would adding the n/a 63 head and intake to my 64 block increase its power? Or would finding a 64 dohc head be better? If so what cars came with the dohc head, or where could I get my hands on one?

most people take the 63's dohc head and swap it onto the 64' bottome end. there is a tutorial in the 7g section, check it out.

DO all GST's have 205 or only the convertibles?

I know most convertible cars have different routing for the exhaust, and different HP number because of it.

exactly! better bottom end and more place for air if you've got a dohc!! makes sense??
