i just swapped out the 4g64 for another 4g64 because i blew my motor before christmas and i got every thing working now except two things excessive oil leak from oil filter housing (oil fitler) and when u hit the gas the car bogs down real low and stalls but if u give it gas extremly slowly it will climb RPMs i took the distributor cap off and fornd that the rotor was broken so i tried to get one from the auto parts store but every store had one for a 97 galant but none of them fit that looked like they would but they didnt fit the 97 galant distributor. i got 2 codes from the datalogger

PO100 MAF or VAF A Circuit Malfunction (CAI wasnt in when i started it so maf wasnt there either)
P1500 Manf Cntrl Veh.Spd. Idle Speed Conrol Auxiliary Inputs

i suggest you fix the problems you know about before you continue to diagnose. put in the intake and head down to the dealership and get a rotor. it doens't costs way more than one that you'd get at the auto parts store. and since its the dealer, it will fit. its harder to diagnose problems when you have other problems on top of it.

well, if u can't drive it then find a ride to the store, or buy it online and wait for it to come in. you don't want to force the car down the street and possibly cause more damage.

fixed the leak and the rotor button now i keep getting a code .... p1500 (manf cntrl veh.spd. idle speed control auxiliary inputs) thats like a whole different language to me usually i understand these codes and know what they mean but i dont have a clue as to what that means ne one have an idea let me know please

did you remove the distibutor prior to installing the engine?
Sounds like the timing is way off or your plugs have a problem. Did you check to see if you got the plug wires in the right order?

So is the MAF installed and hooked up? If it isnt, theres your reason. If it is, did the P0100 code go away? If not it might be a bad MAS. These cars will not run if the MAS isnt installed, plugged in, and working properly.

never had a p100 code just a p1500 yes plug wires are installed correctly
and the maf is installed i have taken the distributor off b4 but never had this problem. when i got the motor the only thing missing was the rollers under the valve cover i replaced those but i dont think those would have messed up the timing bc the timing belt was still in place and it was only the exhust side of the rollers that was missing

Rollers shouldnt be the issue. You can replace them withotu taking off the timing belt no problem.

Im really not sure what that code refers to. Is your speedo working properly? If the car revs fine if you ease into it, but not when you just gas it, then it sounds like it would be having an issue going out of closed loop and into open loop. Right now P1500 is the only code your getting?

yep thats the only code after i got it running but b4 i got it running (when it was just cranking) i was gettting a IAT code and a MAP code but i erased them and they never came back and i have no idea if the spedometer works or not bc i dont want to force the car to drive and make things worse do you know what would cause it to have those problems going out of closed loop and into open loop (jumped timing maybe) if the timing was off bc of the distributor how could i set it back to normal

Im not sure if there is a way to adjust the timing on the SOHC. If the timing was off, it wouldnt run very well under wide open throttle. A bad or going bad o2 sensor could cause it to have issues. Could be something with the MAS. I will have to look into that error code and see what could cause it.

ok i figured out why she was runnin so shitty the rotor button was broken so it was not spinning sufficiently when u just gas it but now got new rotor on and car wont start just keeps cranking it threw me a couple of codes IAT Sensor and Map sensor would these codes keep the engine from starting?

yes speedometer works!

iat is in the mas sensor.

which woudl indicate a bad connection, or a bad mass.

what model year is yoru galant?
wha model year was the motor you installed?

i have a 97 and the motor is for a 97, i found out why it wont start the contact point on the new rotor button is shorter than the contact point on the old rotor button so its not sparking .....i swear the people who manufacture these things are about as smart as a brick here are some pics

(this is the one with the shorter contact point ya see it hardly even looks like it has one)

P1500 Manf Cntrl Veh.Spd. Idle Speed Conrol Auxiliary Inputs: replaced the solinoid on the firewall for the vaccum hoses.... code went away

the bogging down is from the fuel pump not responding correctly when i give it gas

the fuel pump pumps at one constistant rate, it doesn't change.

the fuel pressure regulator adjusts fuel pressure based on engine manifold pressure. wich has everythign to do with yoru throttle percentage, engine speed, and barametric pressure in the area you are driving.

unless your fuel pressure regulator has gone bad, i highly doubt that mechanical fuel delivery is your problem.

so do you have ne ideas of what it could be

well i have definatly finally figured out what is wrong and it not good.... a broken or bent valve i can hear something banging around in the cylinder head and i have metal shavings flying out of my exhaust and if i hold the gas pedal to the floor flames shoot out of the exhust so im pretty sure its a valve or something related so now i must think about whether or not its worth tring to fix i think im just gonna swap the motor out with another 4g64 or sumthin i have to get this car working its my only car!!
