Did you test fit that stuff first? For the most part it should fit good, however, the last thing you wanna be doing is bending and trying to modify parts to fit after they were freshly painted. Especially the side skirts, if you need to drill any more holes or enlarge a hole, you dont wanna do it after its painted.

when I get my house I want to buy a 6g front clip or something with a flat hood and make a table out of it, and maybe take the rear and convert it to a couch or something.

Those pics just made me confirm that vision.

yea it does...that fender is all messed up and bent behind the skirt, due to an old accident with a kid bumping the fender with his bike...i did the best i could without replacing anything and going to a shop...

how did you get it in there?

if notice on the pic u see the sideskirt going lower and lower...thats what i had to cut to make them fit...i think i had the super vr4 sides..but once i cut the top layer off its good to go...i was only able to reach one of the holes by the front wheel on both sides the other hole i had to make, so it wont wabble...a self tapping screw in the back and a few in the bottom and your good to go...

Yup, if you look at my sig below, those are the Super VR-4 sides for the '96-'97 Galant VR-4. The ones that whokilledhoughes has are the regular side skirts from the '98+ VR-4.

I guess in some states they don't allow that, or maybe the police are just a-holes.

hey guys...well today i went to the junkyard and after going through many of them i finally found a V6 galant that still had its rear disks...

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b156/whokilledhoughes/DSCN1130.jpg

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b156/whokilledhoughes/DSCN1131.jpg

the galant was a 2001 with 21000 miles...it was wrecked from the front..so the part were barely used...got both of them for $150...i just need to clear up on a couple of things that i read on other threads that i have questions on...

1-the assembly came with both brake hose...those are going to screw in where the break hose from the drums are with no problem right???

2-the E-brake is also going to screw in with no problem???

3-my last question wich i didnt see anywhere...i was looking at my job at the master cylinders for the 8G 4cyl and 8G 6cyl...they both have different master cylinders but same brake booster wich means you can connect either master cylinder to it...i was talking to one of my co-workers and he asked me since i have drums my hydrolic system...or the pressure of the fluid going to rear needs to be increased since im putting calipers now and i need more pressure or something???now i havent read any problems with people doing the swap...but one question i have is why are the master cylinders from the 4 cyl Galant and the 6cyl galant different...is it because of space???size???and most important do i have to switch the master cylinder for a V6 one...and did any 4cyl 8g galant come with rear disk???<--if one did then u answer all my questions.

thanks guys ill post pics once im done with this project

You will need to change the proportioning valve (which on my JDM 7G is attached below the master cylinder on the brake booster), but yours being LHD and USDM I'm not sure where they would have put it.

I did a drum to disc conversion on my old 6G and I found the rears wouldn't brake very well once it had discs - changed the whole master cylinder and proportioning valve and everything was sweet.

thats exactly what i was thinking...im going to do the install this weekend and depending how the car feels whens stoping, i might just go and buy a master cylinder from the V6...i can get one for $55 leaving the old core...so its not that much...as for the proportioning valve i gotta see if its under the MC...but i think its a dealer item...not sure yet..

the majority of your stopping power comes form the front brakes. Unless you plan on doing some high speed short range stopping, or auto crossing, i don't think you'll really need to worry about changing the master cyl.

Good luck with the rear disc swap, should be fairly easy. The car looks great! made me wanna go out and get an 8g for a minute..... but just a minute.

You can get the parts for a lot cheaper than that. i bought my parts brand new from the dealer ( heaven knows why? ) check locak jy's for Eclipse GST's 95-99 with rear calipers, and buy the whole thing, minus the hub assembly.

well the tip looks like its pointing down...but its already hitting the top of the bumper...i would have to bring down the muffler more so the tip would look straight...but im not even gonna bother since im changing the whole cat-back again...looking for something different...

i like the sides i have so i dont think im gonna be looking for super vr4 ones...now my rims....i like how they look on the car now...but idk about changing them...i might get these painted bronze or gold...like the STI wheels...idk ill see whats up later...

Looks good bro. I'm glad to see you got the rear on. As far as muffler problems, I feel your pain. I had to undo the muffler from underneath and have it hang so that it wouldn't hit the rear until I could get to a muffler shop to fix it.

But yo, get those fender flares homie and the exterior will be complete.

Really nice man. the flares look great, the wing goes well with the c/f hood, and the EGR flows with your other sunguards. looks good bro but if your going turbo i would go ith a bigger exhaust, i know the invidia for the 3g comes in 3" piping all you have to do to fit it is have it extended a bit, i have the evo 2 on mine which is a little bigger also like 2 1/2", i had it modified the few inches to fit and from its designt it is supposed to go under the rear axle etc but had it modified to go over as well (good idea if your low) the megan is a great exhaust but it is a little small in diameter for someone going turbo

i cancelled the order on the megan since ive been waiting 2 months for it..called local shop and they quoted me about 300 for a 3" cat back...not bad...gonna wait till i mount the turbo so they can do my intercooler piping and the 3" downpipe all the way back...i know im looking to spend aroung 1000 for everything..hopefully less..we'll see...

anyways i took better quality pics of the car...here you

Yo man, your car is mos def the hottness with those flares. I've been wanting a set forever. Was the $450 you paid, including the shipping? In your opinion, is it better to order those flares or get a universal set for around $250 and mold them to fit?

i know..i was planning on getting this before i decided to go turbo..but things changed...most turbo guys tell me just to do a 3", that i wont regret it...so im going in that way...if only megan made a 3" :? ...o well all i know is that once im done im going to be a monster  ..compared to what i am now.. :)

The $250 is just for the raw flares. I would have to pay another couple of hundred to have them molded on and then I'd have them painted when the whole car is sprayed.

well im glad to say im over 50% done with gathering most of the turbo parts..so far ive spent a over $2000 and still have about $1500-$2000 to go...some of the prices for parts are cheap due to i work at an auto parts and get stuff cheaper...so as it looks like this will become a $4500 kit..and notice im using the stock manifold...aftermarket manifolds for the evo's range from 150-800 depending on the brand...i could have done this cheaper but im taking my time and getting the right stuff..i know there are some things im getting that are not necessary to run boost..but better safe than sorry...theres a guy over at club3g that was able to get this kit running under $1500..it depends on the parts you get. once i have gathered everything i will make a tutorial and step by step instruction on how to turbo your G with a Evo 8 or 9 setup...o and there will be lots of pics  everyone loves pics...i made this list quickly and there might be some stuff i might have left out, i just did everything off the top of my head...for you turbo guys out there if there is anything you think i would need to add to this list let me know :)

well a little update...went to the muffler shop and got a 3" stainless steel cat-back with a 3" magnaflow resonator and a 3"maganaflow muffler with a 4" tip...the car sounds really damm good at start up and acceleration really nice and deep...will post a video later...only downside for now is that i lost my low end completely, due to the N/A motor...and after 3500 RPM the nice deep tone changes and screams like a fartpipe civic...no worry tho as i have been told that when the turbo goes on its going to get rid of the raspiness and make a nice steady tone all around...anyways heres a couple pics from the install..everything came out to $585 which is not that bad..the stainless steel piping is what brought the price up...

well there is no cat due to i got the DC sports 4-2-1 headers with no cat...but like ive said the 3" piping is too big for the N/A motor so it created that sound...once turbo is on...WHOoooSH!!!...

ask galant305(david)..he's heard it...sounds really nice and deep...and in the top end...it just screams like a monster..~60-~100...i guess its low end that i get the raspy sound and only betweeen ~3000 RPM- ~3700 RPM...Weird stuff...but W/E...My friend calls it the temporary V-Tech as it hit hard and then gears change and goes back to steady tone..

my dads does the same thing.. it kinda sounsd liek someone is holding a card over the muffler tip lol .... he has 2.5 inch pip eall the way back with a high flow cat and it still does it.. but i can imagine how it sounds with 3 inch must be deep as hell

well if you notice the crash bar has 4 floors..i had to eliminate the bottom floor completely so the intercooler would sit a little higher...other than eliminating the bottom floor and the rear of the bottom floor so the intercooler would sit as far as possible from the bumper...its preatty easy...two bolts with high strengh tread locker...and good to go...its still preatty tight intercooler is 27X2.5..im gonna have to shave a little from the side of the bumper to allow the intercooler piping to go on...will do that as soon as my couplers and piping come in...wont look bad as im gonna use a dremel to shave the bumper slowly so it slightly touches the piping...will keep everyone updated...

Not bad with the numbers i got considering the upgrades i got.... once boosted im hopefully hoping for a little over double of those numbers..which i dont think should be a problem.

Woohoo I'm still the fastest N/A Auto Galant 4Cyl in South FL LOL!!!

yep...well the guy said he could have pushed a little more ponies out if the engine was warmer...and having a 3" cat back is no good either...not that much difference maybe 3-5 ponies more...

would that be from back pressure? i ask cuz i have a 2.5" exhaust and might dyno before i finish my turbo setup as well...

i dont think it makes much of a difference...you just loose low end since there is no back pressure what so ever.... but i know if i didnt have the 3" cat back i would have gotten a little more ponies... i do feel the car way slower than it was before...and gas milage...lets not go there...i do about 225 on a full tank...not stepping on it...since there is no back pressure the left over gas in the engine is lost and not burned...w/e...once on boost everything should be going back to normal...

Lack of power is not because of lack of backpressure, that is a myth. Its because the exhaust pulses are too spread out. With stock exhaust, each exhaust pulse in turn, helps the next pulse pull itself through the piping. The bigger pipe you go without pushing more air through your motor(more mods, turbo, s/c, heavy modded NA), the further apart the exhaust pulese get, and the slower they move through the exhaust.

Taken from a Honda forum doh:

Backpressure: The myth and why it's wrong.

I. Introduction

One of the most misunderstood concepts in exhaust theory is backpressure. People love to talk about backpressure on message boards with no real understanding of what it is and what it's consequences are. I'm sure many of you have heard or read the phrase "Hondas need backpressure" when discussing exhaust upgrades. That phrase is in fact completely inaccurate and a wholly misguided notion.

II. Some basic exhaust theory

Your exhaust system is designed to evacuate gases from the combustion chamber quickly and efficently. Exhaust gases are not produced in a smooth stream; exhaust gases originate in pulses. A 4 cylinder motor will have 4 distinct pulses per complete engine cycle, a 6 cylinder has 6 pules and so on. The more pulses that are produced, the more continuous the exhaust flow. Backpressure can be loosely defined as the resistance to positive flow - in this case, the resistance to positive flow of the exhaust stream.

III. Backpressure and velocity

Some people operate under the misguided notion that wider pipes are more effective at clearing the combustion chamber than narrower pipes. It's not hard to see how this misconception is appealing - wider pipes have the capability to flow more than narrower pipes. So if they have the ability to flow more, why isn't "wider is better" a good rule of thumb for exhaust upgrading? In a word - VELOCITY. I'm sure that all of you have at one time used a garden hose w/o a spray nozzle on it. If you let the water just run unrestricted out of the house it flows at a rather slow rate. However, if you take your finger and cover part of the opening, the water will flow out at a much much faster rate.

The astute exhaust designer knows that you must balance flow capacity with velocity. You want the exhaust gases to exit the chamber and speed along at the highest velocity possible - you want a FAST exhaust stream. If you have two exhaust pulses of equal volume, one in a 2" pipe and one in a 3" pipe, the pulse in the 2" pipe will be traveling considerably FASTER than the pulse in the 3" pipe. While it is true that the narrower the pipe, the higher the velocity of the exiting gases, you want make sure the pipe is wide enough so that there is as little backpressure as possible while maintaining suitable exhaust gas velocity. Backpressure in it's most extreme form can lead to reversion of the exhaust stream - that is to say the exhaust flows backwards, which is not good. The trick is to have a pipe that that is as narrow as possible while having as close to zero backpressure as possible at the RPM range you want your power band to be located at. Exhaust pipe diameters are best suited to a particular RPM range. A smaller pipe diameter will produce higher exhaust velocities at a lower RPM but create unacceptably high amounts of backpressure at high rpm. Thus if your powerband is located 2-3000 RPM you'd want a narrower pipe than if your powerband is located at 8-9000RPM.

Many engineers try to work around the RPM specific nature of pipe diameters by using setups that are capable of creating a similar effect as a change in pipe diameter on the fly. The most advanced is Ferrari's which consists of two exhaust paths after the header - at low RPM only one path is open to maintain exhaust velocity, but as RPM climbs and exhaust volume increases, the second path is opened to curb backpressure - since there is greater exhaust volume there is no loss in flow velocity. BMW and Nissan use a simpler and less effective method - there is a single exhaust path to the muffler; the muffler has two paths; one path is closed at low RPM but both are open at high RPM.

IV. So how did this myth come to be?

I often wonder how the myth "Hondas need backpressure" came to be. Mostly I believe it is a misunderstanding of what is going on with the exhaust stream as pipe diameters change. For instance, someone with a civic decides he's going to uprade his exhaust with a 3" diameter piping. Once it's installed the owner notices that he seems to have lost a good bit of power throughout the powerband. He makes the connections in the following manner: "My wider exhaust eliminated all backpressure but I lost power, therefore the motor must need some backpressure in order to make power." What he did not realize is that he killed off all his flow velocity by using such a ridiculously wide pipe. It would have been possible for him to achieve close to zero backpressure with a much narrower pipe - in that way he would not have lost all his flow velocity.

V. So why is exhaust velocity so important?

The faster an exhaust pulse moves, the better it can scavenge out all of the spent gasses during valve overlap. The guiding principles of exhaust pulse scavenging are a bit beyond the scope of this doc but the general idea is a fast moving pulse creates a low pressure area behind it. This low pressure area acts as a vacuum and draws along the air behind it. A similar example would be a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on a dusty road. There is a low pressure area immediately behind the moving vehicle - dust particles get sucked into this low pressure area causing it to collect on the back of the vehicle. This effect is most noticeable on vans and hatchbacks which tend to create large trailing low pressure areas - giving rise to the numerous "wash me please" messages written in the thickly collected dust on the rear door(s).

VI. Conclusion.

SO it turns out that Hondas don't need backpressure, they need as high a flow velocity as possible with as little backpressure as possible.

nice!!! yea u would of deff had more power if u had a smaller piping...but i think that even with the piping being 3". with the headers u should of gained more power...davids is 155 stock not 145 so maybe thats y its more...HP is confusin lol
