2g v.s. 7g manual transmission gearing **Updated** 3/5/07

Its gear ratio all are to be read as X.XXX:1 Which means that the input shaft will turn the gear selected plus the final drive ratio :1

So outputted through the trans:

My evaluation is that the 7g trans shows a little bit more design intentions toward a smaller wheel as the gears are higher and the gaps a little longer. If your not running much power and wont be able to afford major power adders for awhile the 2g trans would be prefferable, but if you have a little taller tire and more power the 7g trans would probably make it easier to avoid blowing off the tires.

Anyone know the final drive for an 8G vs. a 3g.

If its already a 5spd then its not worth it, but if your upgrading your engine I'd say 7g.

Id like a little more gear in first and second in my car. THird is pretty nice though when the boost is up.

A little more tire would probably help to though.

Yeah the rim has minimal to do with how tall the wheel ends up being, you can have a 15" rim with 44" tires, and 19" rims with 24" tires.

Good news guys I just got off the phone with jon from tre trans. He informed me that the 2g gst 16% taller gearset works on the 7g trans :mrgreen: . The only thing is that due to gearing it will only be 14% taller in the 7g trans. Also peno he said the gear must be heated up and pressed in :wink: . I get my gearset on thursday so will let you guys know. btw the site is http://www.teamrip.com/

let us know how it goes for you, i still have mine sitting on my god damn dresser which just kills me every morning i get out of bed. i'm going to try fitting it onto kimya's 7G tranny since i'm still putting the LSD in, just for curiosity's sake, and see if i have the same problem. i'm probably going to take the car to a foreign tranny shop, explain to them the situation, and see what they can come up with. considering you can remove the end case within seconds (literally) it shouldn't be all that expensive....
