Please, complete audio noob here. LOL. Just brought a couple of boxed 12" Viberance subs. What sort of amp should I be looking to buy to run them?

Thanks!

you usually use a mono amp on subs

For most set ups but if she has woofers that run at 4 or even 8 ohms a two channel might work. Or if she has plans to want to only run one amp to all five or four speakers she could use a four channel or a five. We really need to know the specs on her woofers to give her a better answer but a mono amp is probably what she does need....

That's the thing really, I'm not sure, I purchased second hand.

But these are the exact same ones I have (box and all): http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-stereos/Subwoofers/photos/a-87638497/p-35648684.htm

Well the only viberant speakers I found was 1000watt monsters. The spider and magnet look different than what you have. So its hard to say exactly what to run as your amplifier. If possible I'd look at the speaker and check for a model number or possible wattage recommendation.

My mate said he had the same set, and he did mention that they were 1000watt each. I'm not exactly sure if what he's saying is correct, but since he had the same set, I believe him.

Well if it is 1000 max I would venture to take a wild guess that it is anywhere between 500 to 750 per sub RMS. A mono amp with a rating of 1000 rms bridged should push them just fine. If you are looking for just one amp to push only your subs. Do you know of these subs are a DVC (Dual Voice Coil) or SVC (Single Voice Coil)?

I read some of that link the speakers are 400 watts . Even if that is rms or peak Being that they are in a bandpass box a decent 400 x 2 channel amp will push them nicely and also you will be sure you wont blow them running the amp at 3/4 power.

I've got it all set up now, thanks :D

Just brought a cheaper amp and only running one atm, will be buying a slightly more powerful one later to run both.
