Anyone ever put one on their car? Imma be getting a beach cruiser soon and need one. I wonder how it looks. I went to http://www.rackattack.com/ and for our car with a "High Roller" bike rack component added to the basic Yakima Rack...its $468.00!

So Im wondering a few things...

1. Anyone ever done it (even with the basic rack only)
2. Anyone have an image of it?
3. Anyone know where you can get it cheaper?

thanks guys.

if you remember what the dealer roof rack is for the 8g, thats the yakima rack.

i've read reviews between the yakima and thule racks and the yakimas i read seem to scratch more than the thule racks

i am putting together a thule system for my car. uhm just getting the pieces individually off of ebay. i'll save a few buck there.

mitsubishi parts.com has the "Factory" rack for 200 if you are interested

Im interested in it for the cosmetic look, but for functional use, it would be cheaper to get the trunk system that has the bike hanging from the back. But would there be more of a risk of it scratching the paint there? But I think it would look ugly there. Then again, even the roof rack isnt that good looking becuase our car is more luxorious....

just like the trunk system, the roof system you still have a risk of scratching. put some clear paint protection film under the pads.

i haven't really thought about the trunk rack since i didn't plan on carrying a bike on my car. more like fishing gear, skis snowboards and etc so a rack was more feasible for me. plus, my spoiler gets in the way.

i was thinking about looks too. IMO a trunk carrier looks too soccer mom-ish. but thats me. but yea, this thread got me more interested click click (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2461891&page=1)

Excellent find! I became a fan because a local car club all have a roof rack on their cars. I think they pull it off well. Just when looking at our car I wonder how it would really look. Those OEM images dont work for me. I'll have to create some ghetto PS of my car with one. But I suck at it. lol. But I also feel that if I spend 500 for the rack and bike holder I want...then another $200ish for a beach cruiser bike, I could have put that towards the body work or something else...hmm....
But none the less, I would like to keep ideas open if I was ever able to save some money...lol

i think it would look better with the fairing installed. plus the fairing isn't just for looks, it can increase fuel economy and wind noise compared to without having one.
