View Full Version : yet another question about lowering

ive decided to lower my 2002 gtz, i am undecided weither or not to get the progress springs, or the ebach pro kit. now, the progress springs give you a 2" drop and the pro kit gives ys about a 1.5" drop, right? i live in an area where the roads are pretty horrible, will a 2" drop be asking for trouble?

and one more question...i will be doing all the work myself. i am currently going to an automotive school and we have all the equipment to do everything. now when i do the alighnment, will i need any camber or castor kits? id like to get the ride as perfect as possible, i know it wont be as close to a stock ride, but i dont want any hassles down the road.

i'd stick with the eibach, gives a better ride, especially on the stock struts and shocks, they won't blow out (by theory) as easily as it would on progress springs.

but with the alignment kit, uhm it all depends on how your car reacts to the drop, some people needed them some don't. but the rule of thumb is that your chances of you needing one increases the lower your car goes

we have like 4 different alignment machines at our school, we just got the new hunter one thats all done by lasers. supposedly its hyper accurate, i havent used it yet, but i will on my galant

Also keep in mind what size rims you will have on your car. If you are going 18's or bigger I would say go with the Eibach. Anything less go with progress.

well, just installed my springs tonight, it looks tight, ill post some pics when get a chance.

now, question about alignments...i didnt get a chance to do it tonight, but a classmate of mine who has lowered a lot of cars was telling me to wait untill the springs settle, which makes sense.

now, in order to align this thing, i looked up in alldata, and it says you need to replace the top factory bolt on the bottom of the front struts. the new bolt is thinner so you can adjust the camber, theres a few different sizes depending on how much you need to adjust it. when i went to the delearship to get the bolts, they said they dont make them anymore. when i went to ask one of the mechanics they said they just take a dremmel tool and ream out the hole so you can move the wheel in or out. i was amazed at this and the only thing that popped into my mind was HACKER! and this is the friggin delearship! these people sure as hell arent touching my car, i dont give a shit if its under warranty or not.

now should i just shell out the money for camber kits for the front and rear? is it needed for the minimal drop that the ebiach springs give you?
i was thinkin to just put it up on the alignment machine next week to see just how far it is off. if its not that bad, ill wait. but if the camber and toe are way off, should i just ream out the holes for now, cause i really cant afford those kits at the moment considering i just got laid off from my job.

i couldn't tell you shit about doinfg the alignment, but i can tell you that the Eibach springs are not going to "settle"... do it NOW...

i did not need a front kit, but i did need the rear... i would spring for the kit... it's only about 50 bucks or so, and it will allow for 4 degrees of adjustment, so if you DO want a bit of negative camber, you have that luxury to dial it in...

don't rig shit, do it right...

oh, just did the alignment tonight. i was expecting things to be way off, but they werent, everything except the toe was in factory spec, no kits needed. the caster is a little off on the left front, but there are no adjustments for caster on our cars, and its only 0.1 degree off so no biggie.

now all i need is some nice rims

Argh why can't anyone ever post a perfectly side view on a V6 https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif I wanna know if your front looks lower than the rear like mine does...your fender gap seems to be the same as mine though...My gaps are the same on all 4 wheels but for some reason the front is lower than the back https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Car looks tight. I got a question for you or anyone else with Eibach springs. Did you trim the factory bump-stops at all, or did you just leave them?

I agree with Tiller, first thing I noticed about them pics is how damn pro they look. Looks like they are out of a Mitsubishi brochure or something haha.

I don't believe the installers trimmed anything for my Eibachs...they just took off my stuff, put the springs on, and put everything back together.
