Megan told me all the multicolor skeletonized bars on eBay with their name are NOT for the 8G Galant OR 3G Eclipse. I showed them the mystery brand one I had and they said it was theres. The Megan 8G Galant bar is just that. A bar. I suggest getting the stock 3G bar if you aren't looking to drop a few hundred. If you ARE, check out the 3G Eclipse Spyder application of Carbing's type I strutbar with master brake cylinder stopper.

if u have an i4 get the DCsports STB (i don't think they have released the v6 version yet). NELSON has it and it is a double bar design and looks rock solid. it is a 1 piece design (which is superior to the adjustable ones and the multi-piece ones). i have an RRE 1-piece bar but it was a limited edition and i don't thnik they ever made any more than 5-10 (and they are all gone).

what about the RRE one?

the RRE one is function over form... it's not that cool looking; but the real problem is finding one, they were only made in a super limited supply (maybe 10 total). i don't think there are any left that are not installed.

we don't know if it does for sure yet... i don't think anybody tried it on the v6. it might have clearance issues w/ the intake plenum.

Yup. They swore to me that the one I show is theirs and that the one you show is either one of theirs for another car or if it DOES fit, it's not theirs but made to look like it is. Either way the Megan tech I had on the phone said the one in your picture is not the one they make for our car and they can't speak to its quality. Furthermore they were happy with me for telling them about all the people on eBay claiming those as 8G G or 3G E bars. They apparently draw special pleasure from crushing such folks.

hmmm... i didn't know quality was really an issue on a strut bar  . i thought they all pretty much did the job and some were just better comsmetically. so i just got a cheap no-name one that i found on sale somewhere. oh well, i'm still gonna paint it and install it anyway cuz its better than nothing.

I think the only really differences are weight, engine clearance and whether it has flexible joints or one solid piece w/ welded joints. The rest is cosmetic. Stray away from major brands and you might have issues with the quality of the material used if nothing else.

the v6 intake plenum is too high. I tried to fit my DC bar on my friends v6. not sure why it hits... when looking at all the other v6's with FSBs, they practically all look the same.

i say DC is the best because its a double bar design. theres no flex to the bar and no pivot points. while the most other brands use thin aluminum bars with 2 pivot points

heres another old pic i found that showed the clearance of the bar and the intake. man thats dirty. anyone want a galant intake mani?

http://img15.imgspot.com/u/07/81/14/strut5.JPG

i think thats 1-1.5 inches clearance.

on the v6, i think theres a piece of electronic on the top thats in the way. i forgot what it was. it might fit if you moved it somewhere else.

dknight3
03-23-2007, 02:48 PM
yours is perfectly straight, the picture on the first page has it bent up slightly, im guessing so it can clear the intake manifold on the v6's.

The welded one that gets me hot...

" The Carbing Tower Bar is a completely welded piece (no pivot points) with a 5mm thick base plate, which makes it truly functionally in reducing chassis flex.
It is constructed of A6063S aluminum for superior rigidity and light weight.
The built-in brake master cylinder stopper allows the driver increased brake pedal feel which gives the driver greater control.
This two in one bar is not only fully functional but is also beautifully crafted."

http://www.tein.com/okuyama_STB.html Eclipse Spyder application.

EDIT - oh yeah. Tein told me that if anyone of us are planning on getting any Tein dampers with EDFC, this is the only bar they recommend us using with the EDFC. Apparently it's made to fit it perfectly. I'm sure 90% of the others discussed would work fine though.

When one of you V6 guys find a decent looking Stut bar that fits...please do post. Ive been searching and searching and i hardly find shit. DC Sports carbon steel bar does look dam nice, but it apparently wont fit the V6. Ive seen the Freedom Design Bars for the 4cyl., but cant find a damn V6 bar. The Tein bar does look nice but again, because it is designed specifically for the Eclipse, will it fit perfectly into a Galant Engine bay. Although the 8G and 3G share many similar components, im skeptical as to whether the engine bays are the same size.

Keeps the brake felling firm and responsive as I understand it. Probably only becomes noticeable if you were racing and braking a lot and the fluid is all hot.

but doesnt the v6 on the eclipse stick up the same ammount as the v6 on the galant?

yes. that's why if the DC I4 bar does not fit the V6 3G, it won't fit the V6 8G either.

Tein doesn't but Carbing does (same level of quality, distributed by Tein). It's listed for the V6 Eclipse Spyder but I've had a number of mechanics (including one at the dealership) tell me there's no reason it shouldn't fit ours. It's expensive though. $350

http://www.tein.com/okuyama_STB.html

I want one down the road.

It's got a connection to the master brake cylinder which supposedly keeps the brakes from feeling all nasty after driving hard for awhile. Other than that I think it's just lighter, and the base plates are certified by Tein to not get in the way of EDFC wrenches.
