Is there any known parts out there that allow you to convert a FWD USDM galant to AWD?
I dont know what parts i need, but im feeling ambitious, and i plan on doing this to mine in june.

You will find the tunnel in the galant is not the same as the Eclipse, I have done the 4wd Twin Turbo v6 conversion on my 7g, and had to modd the tunnel for the tail shaft mounts and to clear enough room for the exhaust. You should be able to use all the Eclips parts you have over there, but id imagine the galant has a longer wheel base? and will require a longer tail shaft.

Get 2g awd parts, my friend did a awd conversion on 1994 lancer with talon awd parts

If you are going to do it i would find a 2g awd shell. It would problity be cheaper in the long run and you will have all the parts you need.

That would be the best way to do it. It would need a custom driveshaft for sure.

custom shaft wont be too hard for me, a local shop makes them all the time.
but getting the rest of the parts has proven to be hard...

just buy a 2g gsx parts car. you can get a rolling chassis for 2k.
sell everything you don't use.
you'll break even.

would an evo rear fit?

Your best bet is finding a 95-97 2g AWD chassis..for some reason 98-99 2g's used a different front crossmember and some of the bolt points on the rear crossmember are different. Nothing drastic..but the 95-97 are pretty much identical..so swapping parts and welding and bolt locations are spot on.

Swapping a Evolution rear end is much more work and time to fit. Bolting points are no where near the same and the wheel base is much wider on the Evo's.

A custom driveshaft will have to be made, the 2g's are not long enough.

Get one from overseas from a 7g vr4?

any hotrod shop can make you a driveshaft.
actually its not all that custom.
they will reuse the fittings from the stock 2g shaft you give them and basically chop them off, and weld in the proper length shaft, then of course they balance the assembly.
. this is so very common, that i doubt it woudl cost much at all.

well a 2g parts car is what i have been looking for, but i havent been able to locate one within 100 miles. i wouldnt want to go any farther away than that, i have to tow it home...

Thats if the yokes from the tcase and rear diff are the same as the ones off the 2g awd's.

Taking the stock 2g driveshaft to a local place that builds custom driveshafts will be your best bet. All they need are the ends of the driveshafts..and the middle part is custom made.

hi there you have been PM'ing me about this and I haven't got back to you yet....

well i haven't been underneath my car since the car rolled out of the container that brought it in so it's a bit hard.

Also take into account that I don't know what rear subframe you are going to use my measurement may be utterly useless to you. (my VR4 has, of course, a VR4 rear end with a diff in it, if you are going to use a Eclipse rear subframe it might not be the same....)

so let me know more specifics before I go mambo under my car with a ruler for you....:smt091

Better off towing the car to the shop ad have the make it with the car. My friend had a driveshaft made for 396cid in a GMC truck (aluminum shaft) for about $250. Call them ahaed of time and explain what you need.

Yeah I dont think it would be good to use somebody else's measurements and have your custom driveshaft made and it not fit. Better off to get the awd trans/transfer case in the car, carrier bearing mounted, rear 2g shaft instaled, and rear subframe/diff installed, then make your measurements.

Or you could go with a full one piece shaft, but Id rather keep it stock design and go with a 2 piece.

thats going to suck getting one custom made. Isn't the 1g/2g driveshaft a 3 piece driveshaft?
