Gimme enough time and cash, and I'll cram a Ferrarri V12 in there for ya  .... You're probably asking more along the lines of what'll go in there easily? Uhh, the 4g63T is basically "plug and play." And I've heard the V6 from 7g JDM VR-4 will also fit with a bit more work. Or you could make big power with the engine you've already got. Choices, choices... Search around for more info.

If it is a 4g63T, there isn't much point in paying 3K. You can build one up for a better price than that. Unless it is twin turbo or Mivec, don't pay extra for JDM.

If it was an Eclipse engine, it wasn't a "Japan" motor... The Eclipse is essentially nonexistant outside the U.S. Yeah, 4g63t's are a dime a dozen. The local monster redneck junkyard here has like 30 of them and most are probably still in completely good running condition. I'd pay $1000 max for a non rebuilt one. and that's if it's low millage with all the parts still attached. An Eclipse engine will fit fine. But if you can't understand the guy at the shop, you might want to find a diffrent shop! Being able to communicate with the shop is critical. But, back to the basis of your question: Yes, an Eclipse motor will go right in, assuming the transmission is the same (if you have an auto, you'll need one with an auto transmission, and vice versa or else you'll have to retain your stock tranny) Just be sure it has the ECU as well. Also, this is where you may again run into problems. JDM ECU's don't like American gas very much. So, if you do get a JDM engine chances are you'll have to scrounge a U.S. spec ECU to make everything run right. Think of it this way, the engine you have now is a N/A, SOHC, higher displacement version of the Eclipse engine. As far as the mounting points are concerned it's the same engine. you'd just need a new hood. One with "the bump" Found on the rare GS and the less rare ES models. Umm, and you'd also have to do some fuel injector trickery or some such. Club 4g64 has much more info on "the swap"

If you get a JDM motor will it matter that the steering wheel on those cars are on the righthand side instead of the left? Or is that easily fixed. And also what about 6 bolt and 7 bolt motors? Will that make a difference?

Anyone know?

Umm, no, I don't really think so. The side that the steering wheel is on really only affects the steering rack. The thing that really matters is what side the transmission is on.

actually i am talkin with Road Race Engeering (highly respected DSM specialists in So. Cal) if you go with the JDM spec engine you will have to get a custom motor mount to fit the left side steering wheel, also the big problem with the 4g63ts was the crank-walk that a lot of them get, the 6 bolt crank had less of a problem (the 6 bolt was mostly used on the 1g 4g63t i believe) also i have a question if anyone knows that i have not yet asked RRE

could you swap a 6g63t head onto a 6g64 block and make it work? that would in theory get rid of the crank walk problems, get a lot more aftermarket support than the 6g64, and in the mean time take a little bit of turbo lag off by keeping the 2.4L displacement... it would b perfect... neone know if thats possible?

either that, or cut your hood up som. like if the bars under the hood came out the space would be sufficient.

or you could buy a cf hood for $550 shipped from galantspeed

You can, but you can also "stroke" the '63 By putting in the '64 crank, you eliminate crankwalk, get an extra .3L of displacement and still have a '63 under the hood (if that sorta thing is importent to ya, otherwise just frankenstein the '64, but that requires a bit more modification, since the '64 crank in a '63 is 100% bolt in and go.
