Guys as you know last week i went ahead and changed the tranny fluid on my GS and went ahead and drained my clutch fluid but now i have two new problems.

1st. My clutch fluid is draining due to a leak that i have on the following hose which i dont know what this hose is called, here is a pic i have in which it shows the hose.
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/590/galantvw7.jpg

2nd. For some reason whenever i shift towards 2nd gear even with the clutch all the way in the gear grinds, it does it whenever i and shifting from 1st to 2nd and when i downshift from 3rd to 2nd, i think it might have to do with the clutch line being ruptured and therefore causing the clutch to slip a little, i dont know what i can do to correct this problem. I will only gring 2nd gear, every other gear works great.

Sorry if i didnt spell something correct

Thats your clutch line man. Get a SS replacement line for a 2g. If its leaking it probably the reason you grind 2nd.

I went ahead and got Royal Purple 75w90 and man it was a mission just finding the fucking fluid, 4 napa's didnt carry the royal, i went and filled it with just two quarts of fluid

Thats the one you want, at least from what they say, it should be hella long. you'll have a lot of extra length to play with, so you can run it easily from master to slave.

it should just go from the factory hard line, bypass the gs exclusive expansion resevoir, and bolt right to the slave.

will increase pedal accuracy and feel dramatically.

Our trans use 3.3 quarts of fluid. When filling it, did any come out of the fill port?

gears grinding is almost 100% of the time an improperly adjusted clutch.
either due to the master rod being out of adjustment,
having a bad master,
having a bad slave,
or just having a lot of bad fluid that needs to be replaced.

also,
the 7g tranny is not meant to be speed shifted.
never bang from gear to gear.
be sure to rev match, and every gear change shoudl have 2 steps.
not 1.

Hell.. I never drove a stick on a regular basis till i swapped my tranny. I'me just trying to master 1 step

yeah well you aren't shifting from 1st to 2nd
you are shifting from 1st, to halfway between 1st and 2nd, then 2nd

blowing past that notchy point in between gears is what will kill your tranny.

its important not to fight it.
even when racing.
clutch pedal all the way to the floor every single shift.
all the way to the floor, every time.
hold the shiftknob like an egg, and guide it from gear to gear,
never just bang gears.

on mine it seems first to second flows the hardest. I definitly feel the notch between the two. all the rest flow fairly well, but then again i'm probably not rushing the shift like i am 1-2.
Every so often i'll miss it ,and GRGRGGRRRRGRRG!!!!

I'm also finding the first sometimes is <--------- way over to the left, and i get started in third. seems almost tooo far left. so far i have a small crack in the center insert around the shifter boot, that's visible when i'm pulling first. hmmm.

When i took the fill port screw off the first time the tranny fluid started coming out and when i drained the whole tranny it had about 2.25 quarts of fluid in it, thats why i went ahead and filled it 2 quarts but ill go ahead and get 2 additional ones and make sure to fill it untill it overflows the fill port hole.

Did you replace the shifter cable bushings on the tranny side? Mine were so torn up that I would grind going into 1st and 2nd no matter how careful I was about shifting, and I swore I was ripping the shifter out of the base that's how far I had to pull it over to get into gear. :?

The problem is for some reason the clutch wont come back to me, when i press it, it stays at the bottom and doesnt come back like normal, i am assuming thats due to me not being able to drain the fluid to make sure there no air gaps but right now i am alone so i have to wait till someone gets home. Ill keep yall updated

Speedbleaders ftw.

DOHCstunr
05-09-2007, 07:07 PM
if you're not a pro,
bleed it the best you can.
enough so that it can be driven safely,
then immediatly drive it to a shop where they can bleed it completely with a quickness,

shoudn't cost more than 20 bucks or less if you have a smooth tongue and some cash in hand.
bring the fluid you want,
and have them get it right.

that way you won't have anymore hydraulic issues

i will say though, that it seems to take a couple times to get it perfect.

usually one bleed won't get every single bubble out.
typically some of the larger bubbles will break into hundred or thousands of tiny bubbles, and it can take a couple days for them to come back together for an effective purge.

Well guys i was able to bleed the clutch line about 10 times just to make sure that every bubble came out and wow she is running smooth.

I dont know if its me but when i press the clutch now it feels much better than it ever did.

Well guys thanks for the help and the advice, next thing to do is the brake system.

Sweet. Time for 6g VR4 rotors, SS lines, and some duel pot calipers! My rotors/pads/lines will be here Friday :)
