make sure you scrub down that engine bay with some degreaser, a sponge and water
before you go any further with the swap.
you'll be glad you did.

yeah thats a filthy engine bay.

good luck with the swap, once you get it you ought to quit ricing out your bov, your engine will run much better

Yeah DOHCstunr, we were talking about how birty the bay was but it got cleaned real good today. Getting some paint and repaint some of bay tomorrow.

cool! whos red 8G?
That belongs to a local guy we know. His tranny went out, he wanted to do a 5-speed swap first but his dad talked him out of it. So now we are just going to drop another auto in it

His old turbo setup looked a lot better at first, but the head has been replaced a few times and the motor is really on its last leg. He just didn't put things back as neat after the last few tar downs.
Thanks guys for the comments, and an extra thanks to Diamndsr4eva for the comment on my 7g. Not much was done today, mostly cleaning reinforcing the motor mounts and moving the tranny from the 4g64 to the 4g63. The turbo on the 4g63 in the pics is a 16g, he is going to break the motor in on this turbo then he is going to put his 60-1 on

Thanks alot Nick for clearing up all the wires under the hood.. Also the engine bay is clean and painted now..Guys i really stoped caring for that 4g64 motor after i bought my 6 bolt which was about 3 months ago..As much as i pounded on my 4g64 motor it just didnt want to break so i could do the swap(gotta give the wife a good reason for swapping motor)I over boosted it,over reved and ran it low on oil but nothing happened! So finally i fouled out the plugs. So finally the monster project is being started...

there isn't an idea that i could come up with that would be a worse case scenario than running no timing belt cover.

way to roll the dice.

its a pretty sweet idea to gamble all the time, labor and money into leaving the most volnerable part of the rotating asembly to chance.

still, glad to see another join the club,
just don't be a fool w/ it

Yes the lower timing belt cover is on the motor, just the top cover, over the cam gears, was removed

all you have to do is drop one nut, one tiny bolt, one paper clip, one pebble, one anything into the timing cover when its open like that... at any time....

any time over the years, months, days that you have that motor runing.... and the timing belt is shot.
and subsequently.... your motor.

not worth it IMHO
put the cover back on. there really is no point to having it off, and of course, this is one of the reasons mitsu made it in the first place... to protect the belt.

The point of me having it off is because i like it that way(thanks). This motor is only to get things started for this car i dont plan on having a 2 liter in this car forever thats one of the reasons why i havent touched my Talon yet!!Ive had 6 Mitsubishi cars and on all of them i removed the timing cover with no problems!!Im good on the wiring now when i needed help the people i contacted did return my pm's. So im going to finish my car and rewrite the 4g63t tutorial with pics so everyone can do the swap!!Sorry if i offened anyone here but i have always looked out for others so i was expecting to get the same love in return..

Stock boost right now!! Tuned with SAFC2(havent had any prob with it since the 4g64 was in)AEM wideband(in downpipe),and 2g data logger!

I think this is the last of the pics with the 16g on the car next pics will have 60-1,Maft trans, and 880s,and cams(hopefully gears also)with alot more goodys in store!!

stock boost as in you wired up the factory bost control solenoid?
did you take the little restrictor out of it for 14 psi?

or are you talking about the base wastegate pressure

DOHCstunr
07-09-2007, 12:20 PM
if you run the translator, run the gen2 translator. the original is beyond obsolete.

seth wants to know if your tach works.

what a/f are you tuning for? stock 450's?

have you done a boost leak check yet?
odds are you'll have 9 or 10. throttle seals, bov adjustment screw, j pipe gasket, yadda yadda.
as you know, they really fuck up your tune, just like a vented bov, except its while you are in boost, no after.
